Pretty Maths Homework

Hi, lately I have been writing all my cousework on ms word. Does anybody have any recommendations for writing mathematics? Word seems very crude to me.

A friend of mine is a Professor in Math at Stanford University. He uses LaTeX.

A lot of academics use LaTex. It's originally Linux based, but there are ports available for use in Windows.
To be honest, I found it a faff. It always seemed too much like sitting down and writing RTF code, which is essentially how it works. In addition, and despite the protestations of the Linux brigade, there actually isn't anything in LaTex that you can't do in Word. It's just that people are so used to using Word without having to set things up that they assume that anything not immediately obvious is not present. In LaTex, you have to set up absolutely everything, so people adopt this approach right from the start.

I wrote my PhD thesis (Physics) in Word and used MS Equation Editor for the eqs. Didn't have any significant problems with it, and it looked very pretty.

Matype is an upgraded version of Microsoft Equations. I'm finishing a degree in electrical engineering and all students I know are using it. It's pretty simple and, like ms equation, when it's installed, it's embedded in word.

yeah agree with zaza regarding LaTex beging a pain. I will give your suggestions a look into
