Does anybody know if apache2 starts automatically after you install it on 2000/xp ?

On win98 you have to start it through a console AFTER its installed don't have 2000/xp so cant test it, if not can you run it like you can with win98, i.e by running it from the console?

Have you checked windows services to see if apache2 was set to automatic startup?

It should tell you if it's running as well?

It's a service, so all you would have to do to start it is a "Net START Apache2"?

Unless I'm not following you...

it depends how it is installed and configured, as sevenhalo alludes. Mine is set to auto startup. Services do not exist as such on Win 98, so it's a bit different.

If by alluding, you mean that I was dancing around the issue in order to completely obsolve myself of any incorrect information; then yeah... I was.

I don't know anything about windows 98 anymore. I thought you "had" it on 98 and were moving it to 2000/NT. Sorry.

I think I confused you, you were right the first time :)

Wha I meant was: on 98 you have no services, but on 2000/XP you can manage them all through the service control panel (in Adminsitrative Tools). So no need for console.

I'm trying to explain to complete novices about setting up apache, i dont have 2000/xp so trying to figure out what to say about these 2 OS's. I read somewhere that after you install it on 2000/xp the service is started and its bascially running, but i then need to run a script that changes the httpd.conf and hence have to restart apache which might be a bit above a novices level.

So i thought rather than mess about with stopping and starting services i could just get them to run it from the console, i.e start /programs /apache / console, but i dont kow if it runs from a console in 2000/xp...

In that case, I stand by my original post :)

Under administrative tools, have them look in services. It will tell you the state of Apache2. From there, you can reset, stop, start, whatever your heart desires. If you right click it and select properties, you can even pass it arguements if need be.

I think you can just put Apache in the Startup Folder in your start button.
