There are many programs that replace the windows interface. . . Litestep is one of these. To replace the windows interface you have to change the line shell=explorer.exe to shell=whatever.exe in the system.ini file
It would be a nice touch if you had a touch screen to use it with :)

Ok.. I know what your thinking.. Another Star Trek Nut. NOT! I do watch the show, but I am more into the Technology then anything. I love the design of the LCARS interface.
NOTE: For those who have no clue what LCARS means - Library Computer Access Retrieval System.
The program is already made by a few other private groups. They have it for download at various sites. But, they need work and were made using VB5. I however have 6. I have been wanting to create my own anyways, and thought, "I wonder who at the VB-Forum would be interested in helping out with this..". It's to be a FREE program. No money involved. The others you gotta pay for. Which is stupid since they may get sued if Paramount ever found out.
NOTE: Only one program named the LCARS Terminal has found a legal way around that copyrite by making JUST the interface. And thus they can see the basic interface. Where as the rest that you can get as a plugin is free. Very smart.
My program is also an interface, but one that completely takes over the WIN95/98 interface (Taskbar too). I have seen only one other program do this, but it was very sad to uninstall if you wanted change back. It also was VERY buggy. Runtime errors all through the program.
So, bottom line, I need people who are creative and a lot of time on their hands. An artist who pays attention to detail would be VERY appriciated too. The LCARS interface is easy to draw, but I am a programmer, and don't have time to do artwork. I have two others who are candidates for the artwork, but havn't heard from them.
This is all done in VB6. We will be integrating 100% into the windows environment, literally replacing it. I have example code if you don't know all the steps and I am very resourceful when needed.. :)

Yes, I need programmers. The artwork, I am getting from other sources.. :)
I posted this message yesterday, and already I got a few responses from the forum and in e-mail.. I didn't realize how many people like this idea.
I just got done talking a few others. We now have around 5 people who want in on this. One is a proffessional Database designer (Perfect). So that leaves the rest of us to pull this all together. I myself can do the artwork and basic design. I will also do whatever else is not done by my partners. So if you want to help, MAN, I COULD SURE USE YOU AND YOUR IDEAS!
In the meantime, I am getting a Web Site ready for this, and I am working on a small working demo of the interface. It won't be the Main interface, but a program that will run off this interface. (LCARS)
Thanks to all who have responded, and yes, I will let you all know whatever accures.

So, you'll be sure to post a message telling us all when it's done, right?!

You bet. And if the party who helped write this agrees (They must ALL agree), we will post the code so that others can add to it also. :)

Sounds like it's going to be one heck of a program! And if I wasn't so busy with school and work, I would offer to help, but I have very little free time, so I don't think I could be of much service. :(

Dude.. if you could see how many people are into this.. I mean... DAMN! LOL!

If you need only artwork why didn't you go to an artwork forum ? Do you also need VB programmers ? If yes count me in.

Hello!
I'd also like to be in your programming team. First because I really like Star Trek and generally all SF and because I'd like to replace old windows shell with something different.
I have a whole bunch of good programming things (classes, controls) and I'd like to participate here.
Oh, yes, your web site is not availible. Why?

OK folks.. Yes, I completely forgot that this post was even here... No, the project is NOT abandoned. We are working on it even as I type this.. We have actually expanded the project. It's MOVED to a new location.

Sorry for not keeping up with this message base, I NOW can see why FOX wrote that I quit making it when I didn't. But he still shouldn't make accusations unless he can prove it.
Either way... forgive and forget and keep an eye on our new site and what it's having to offer the public.

Yup, we need BETA testers for our new shell. It's a Star Trek LCARS panel. (LCARS - Library Computer Access Retreival System) It can even replace your Task Bar. At the moment it doesn't have access to the Start Menu cuzz we need people to look for bugs in our program so far. We are working on the Start Menu next. But for now, we need Testers for what we do have. To get it go here... ONLY experienced computer users need to test it. We are NOT responsible if it crashes your machine. You test at your own risk.

Get 3.02.. That's the BETA and newest version.
Thanks all.
