Resolved [RESOLVED] Any mac users? (KVM Question)

    Hey there,

I've recently purchased a mac Powerbook 12 g4. I got it because after fifteen years of PC's, I want to try the other side for a while That said, I don't want to buy a bigger desk. Has anyone got any experience using a KVM with a mac/PC? My mac can go to my big monitor fine - and my Logitech laser mouse works fine for it - so that much isn't too difficult, but what keyboard (and KVM switch for that matter) should I use?

I can go DVI or VGA from both my PC and the mac (mac has a mini-dvi port with a dvi and a vga adapter, my PC's graphics card has both, and the monitor has both) Obviously the mac can't use PS2 keyboards.

Keyboards don't matter. I've used many kinds of keyboards and they all work well with Macs.

From my experience, as long as it's a USB mouse and keyboard, it will work fine on the Mac and PC. As for monitors, the Cinema displays are just beautiful but if you already have one it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, they are nice - but the NEC I just bought is just as nice Lucky for me, the 1680x1050 resolution is the same on the mac 20"..

So any old VGA / 2X USB KVM should work with whatever keyboard I'm comfortable using?

Re: Any mac users? (KVM Question)

you should probably invest some money in an apple keyboard (unless you continue using the powerbook keyboard). trying to use a generic pc keyboard with a mac (different keys) is not the easiest thing to do.
as for the kvm, get one that fits the right connections. Macs dont have PS/2 ports so any mac keyboard that you might get is going to have a USB connection. you can get usb->ps/2 converters to get around this problem (some mice/keyboards come with these). as long as the connections fit, there shouldn't be any hardware problem.

(and think whether the cost of the kvm is worth saving the effort of unplugging 3 cords every time you switch computers).
