Eight years of Bill "Slick Willie" Clinton is over and we will have a new President. Will it be Gore "the Bore" or Bush II "The Revenge"? I can't say for whom I will be voting for because I don't know yet. Too bad Ross Perot isn't running again. He is always good for a couple of laughs.

I think that I will vote for the president that:
- doesn't stick cigars in foreign places (Clinton)
- doesn't threaten us with "Reading his Lips" and raises taxes anyway (Bush I)
- remembers who he sold weapons to (Reagan)
- doesn't know peanuts about people (Carter)

- doesn't lie (Nixon and everyone else above)

When was the last time any country had a kick-ass leader? Was our's FDR? Too many liberal policies. How 'bout Kennedy? Too many women. (At least he poked Marylin Monroe, Clinton just nailed a chubby intern).
Winston Churchill seems like he was pretty cool when times were tough. He had a world war and an econmy that was worse than the U.S.'s.

I'm writing in Jesse "the Body" Ventura tommorrow.

If you're looking for an honest politician you're out of luck as far as I've seen.

I think I'll write in Batman.

Winston Churchill was once asked to name the chief qualification a politician should have. His reply: "It's the ability to foretell what will happen tomorrow, next month, and next year and to explain afterward why it didn't happen."

Nov 6th, 2000, 05:59 PM
Obviously, even in Churchill's time, the number one requirement of a politician was to be a good bullsh**ter!

Nov 6th, 2000, 06:07 PM
Go ahead.... say it..... bullshiter

see, it wasn't so bad....

BTW... republicans are gonna win, I know it,
I can foretell the future........

bush will win, and I will win the $100,000,000,000 bet that we will make tomorow....

Unfortunately, from what I have heard it seems that Bush is ahead. Heaven help you lot.

Anyway, another Churchill quote (one of my favourites ;)):

A lady MP for the opposition saw Churchill in the House of Commons bar, so she walked up to him and said "Sir, you are drunk, horribly drunk!". To this, Churchill replied in his slightly inebriated state, "Madam, you are ugly, horribly ugly, but in the morning I shall be sober."

Nov 6th, 2000, 06:47 PM
I heard that before....one of my favorites too :D

As an outsider looking in - I'm in UK - for the first time I can remember neither candidate seems to be presidential material.

Both Bush and Gore seem to lack the strength to make a half-decent president.

For the sake of the future please tell me that I am wrong!!!

Then there's Buchannan, with his big mexican-american wall idea. Although he's so conservitive hed probably regulate every part of our lifes. Then we have Nader who wants to legalize marijuana, like that'll EVER happen. I think I just won't vote

Nov 6th, 2000, 09:00 PM
Bush or Gore??????????????????

Dennis

I heard Bush was going to ban the private ownership of guns.

We have to wait for march next year to vote, when we can totally wipe out the bludgers we have in Parliment....the Liberal Party (equivalent to US Republicans but more right wing). Already have champagne on ice and Billy Bragg on the stereo in anticipation.

US People

If you don't like the Gore or Bush, go and vote for one of the third party guys.

HarryW
Nov 6th, 2000, 09:25 PM
Right-wing liberals? That's just weird... I thought conservative and liberal were pretty much opposite.

Nov 6th, 2000, 09:59 PM
We have the Liberals/Nationals and the Labor Party....as well as Democrat, Greens, etc etc etc

Lib/Nat <- right winbg facists

Labor <- trendy lefties.

Democrats <- Just plain crazy

One National <- some one just shoot those people.

Which reminds me, in NZ both the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition are female.

HarryW
Nov 6th, 2000, 10:14 PM
hehehe, 'someone just shoot those people' ;)
I think that caption could probably be given to all of them.

What's the deal with the democrats then? What are they? And what's up with One National?

Nov 6th, 2000, 10:28 PM
The Democrats are kind of middle of the road....and normally make policies like they have been pulling cones like a school boy.

One National is xenophobic. They hate all foreigns, including other aussies who don't live in Queensland.

HarryW
Nov 6th, 2000, 10:35 PM
Fantastic :D

Sorry, I bet it sucks for you and others in Oz, but the thought of a bunch of politicians having a bit of a Dutch oven in one of those chamber thingies, making policies at the same time.. haha I'm sorry, it's just funny in my head :) *Chuckle*

Anyway, what's all this 'WE' at least 5.75 Billion people will not have a president-elect today/tomorrow...

If you Yanks had just stayed loyal, you could have had Pres. Tony Blair, like we do here in the UK:)

Gush or Bore - What a choice *sigh*, still at least we won't have to put up with any more damn 'US Election Specials' for four more years (or should that be two and a half years?)

Hope you get the Pres. you need.

Cheers,

A concerned Limey

Voting for Bush because he is pro guns. Yo....only in the USA.

The winds of revolution are blowing down here too. The Republic will be declared, once we get rid of jack boot johnny and the facists.

Bear in mind that dennis is not of voting age (or shaving age for that matter) and is still at that age where he hasn't learn that guns aren't toys.

HarryW
Nov 7th, 2000, 05:12 PM
I dunno, when I was his age I had already been shaving for a couple of years =]

As far as I can tell, one of the main causes of all the f***ed up problems you have in the US that we don't have so much over here is a bizarre lack of gun control. Whenever anybody mentions it though, people seem to get all constitutional, as if something that wasn't stupid when it was written written over 200 years ago can't be stupid now.

The only polls that have closed are Indiana and Kentucky. Bush took both states. However, he was expected too. At 4:00 Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Vermont and Virginia's polls will close and we should hear more.

Nov 7th, 2000, 08:32 PM
Indiana and Kentucky. Let me guess, the republicans could have put up Sadam and won in those states. Clearly full of red necks and inbreds, though l was expected more republican supporters would have got their heads caught in their banjos thus missing the poll and letting Gore...the most boring man in the world outside of John Howard....win.

Damn they must have used their webbed fingers to get themselves out of their banjos in time.

I hate to tell all you confused socialist errrr democrats but Bush is going to take Florida, especially if it relies on the absenty valots. I would guess 90% of the absenties are military and they dont like clinton/gore. Atleast the military has some intelligence.

Nov 8th, 2000, 03:30 PM
In OZ the Labor Party (equiv of your Democrats) can count on getting the majority of votes from the military. Generally higher degree of lower socio economic status in members backgrounds. But l suppose in the US the military is full of gun toting rednecks, though l really caren't believe it.

Latest reports here is some highly strange carry ons in Flordia, return boxes not counted in initial ballot etc. Reminds of an Australian election.

Hey Hilary won in New York.........GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Alabama, the dead vote all the time. People only get in
trouble when they vote more than once.

Traditionally, absentee ballots favor the more conservative
candidate, because most absentee ballots are from older,
more affluent voters and the military. However, southern
Florida is the Democratic stronghold. Northern Florida is
indistinguisable from LA (Lower Alabama) and SE Georga. I
suspect (hope) that most of the votes are from Southern
Florida. This give a slight edge to Gore.....and he only
needs 1786 votes.

jdavison

He's great. Right now he is figuring out he has hands and feet. It is really cute. nothing like watching kids learn and play.

Most of the military despises Clinton/Gore for several reason.

1.They basically cut all our salaries(instead of a 4-6% anual raise it went down to 1% and under which doesn't even cover the inflation)

2.Cut spending for supplies and equipment.(couldn't maintain a regular training flying schedule and we had aircraft down for weeks since nobody had parts)

3.we were over deployed and under staffed

4.Who in the military would want to be lead by a draft dodger and someone whos dad made sure he was never in any real military activity.

I was in during the begining of the Clinton Administration and military moral fell through the floor because of him.

I get alittle caried away on politics sometimes. I have watch the socialist err Demacratic party destroy a country I was very proud of for the last several years. Peoples writes have been diminished and the goverment has been working harder and harder growing and making the people become more dependent on them. Its no secret that I am a christian. I have made that very clear while I have been on here. But what use to be the land of the free completely reinterprets what the costitution actually says and now I can be fine or arrested for having prayer in the morning in school which wasn't even manditory cause some kid asked his mom what god was. Women claim freedom to choose to kill an inocent child because they want control of there body. they had control of their body when they decided to have sex. That was when there choice was but they just don't want to take responsibility for their actions. This is what the Demacratic party has been spreading, no responsibility. I will say on abortion that I do think it should be aloud up to a point for rape victims, but this is from the standpoint of a non christian perspective and I feel they should keep the baby anyway. Now they are trying to take the guns away from the people, a constitutional right. tell me that they don't want to take away our freedom. Sorry but this is a very personal issue for me.

Sophtware
Nov 9th, 2000, 02:41 AM
Florida was still recounting the votes.

And some state.. i just cant remember which ..is considering recounting there votes just like florida! (NO!)

Also ..here's a little addition to my conspiracy theory

The state that is doing the vote recounting (florida) has a
gov. by the name of Jeb Bush, which turns out to be george w. bush's younger brother .. well how convienient for bush eh?.The reason why they are doing the recount is because of the way the ballot form was made.It showed it on TV. and you can tell how it has an unorganized selection.
the way it shows it...if someone voted for gore... there vote actually got sent to buchanan because of the **** up in the ballot form. And it was said that there were a bunch of votes for buchanan..hehe *i guess the officials got smart and figured out that so many people would not vote for buchanan so they had a recount* so with having said that... it looks like gore might be our president.

But i am not saying this is fact.. i am just stating my opinion :)

Nov 9th, 2000, 05:53 AM
go Bush!!!

BTW, they weren't thinking of letting the false-buchanen voters be able to vote again... it's the idiots own fault they pushed hte wrong ****ing button....

HarryW
Nov 9th, 2000, 09:52 AM
I haven't seen the form, but just because they didn't understand a confusing form doesn't make them idiots. And even idiots get a vote (note I don't say they should get a vote ;))

All this stuff about the right to bear arms and the constitution... we're talking about a document written over 200 years ago. Just because a law was sensible so long ago doesn't mean it's sensible in these times. We have laws in this country (UK) dating back a long time, some of which carry a death penalty for infringement, such as driving cattle/sheep across one certain bridge somewhere. That is a ridiculous law nowadays. The right to bear arms is, in my opinion, not as important as people like to think. Here in the UK, virtually noone carries a gun except people with a criminal lifestyle. I am glad I don't have to walk down the street knowing that everyone has a gun. We have basically no street gun battles except very occasionally in some heavily urban areas. I just don't see the need for anyone to carry a gun unless you intend to use it. It's asking for trouble.

paulw
Nov 9th, 2000, 10:04 AM
In any case, the right to bear arms is as part of a well-organised militia, not quite Dirty Harry...

When the ACLU support the right of the KKK to put burning crosses on a black man's lawn (as happened a few years back) because it would otherwise infringe their constitutional right to free speech (ha!), their is something wrong with the interpretation of the constitution.

Nothing wrong with a written constitution, until you let lawyers at it for two centuries.

We manage pretty well without one and we have no right to bear arms at all. In fact, seeing armed Police is a bit shocking over here.

I just don't get the way positions are taken in the US, right wing = no abortion, lots of guns - don't kill 'em in the womb, wait until they are out and then shoot 'em???

Weird,

I guess we will never understand you guys fully. Lucky you are Ok at VB though.

Cheers all.

Paul.

Nov 9th, 2000, 10:33 AM
It's not the guns, it's the bazookas. No kidding, the BIG
battle right now is whether or not to defend the right to
own anti-armour (tanks, armoured personnell carriers,
helicopter....) weapons. Like bazookas, LAW, 50MM machine
guns, Uzi assault weapons, hand grenades, .....

All, of course, necessary to dine on Bambi.

Harry -
I understand your point about guns and how it would be better without them. But where i live..i think it would be better if people were allowed to carry them
I cant count how many people i know that have been robbed or killed by guns... (i am not saying that having everyone carry guns is the ultimate solution) and i know that adding to the problem wont help, but i do believe that if everyone was allowed to carry a gun, there woould be less violence.

People here are just waiting for a reson to snap... all they need is one good reason to kill.Maybe not guns.. but if the govt. poured more money into education..pepple would have more sense than to kill each other. But then we would be taking away the politicans money too build that giant condo in the bahamas ;)

oh well.

citizens are not allowed to own DD(destructive devices) without a special permit that takes forever to get...

and it's .50" not 50mm

Those are kind of being ignored right now , because of the assult weapons(AK-47's, AR15's, Etc)

but they were thinking of banning them from citizens a few months ago, when this guy went psycho and blew the living **** out of his wife and a few people at the supermarket,
they said the bullet went through a manhole cover....

Please...check your facts.

Money for education:

The money for education at the kindergarten through high school level is legislated on the State level NOT the Federal level. There are more Republican Governors in the United States than Democratic Governors. Therefore, your statement regarding education and the current Clinton administration is invalid.

Nov 9th, 2000, 07:03 PM
Dennis

If you ever wanted to see how the rest of the world views Americas insane gun laws get a copy of "The Killing of America" on VHS and watch it....just crazy.

We had our gun debate over here after this bloke went mental and shot twenty or so people in Tasmania...lead to the ban on individual ownership of high powered rifles...handguns are already banned.

The rednecks up Queensland way got excited by it all, and started an add campaign saying it was our constitutional right to own guns. The US NRA poured money into the campaign.

Two problems here bro:

1. What the flock has it got to do with the American NRA what the gun laws are in Australia.

2. No where in the Australian Constitution does it state that citizens have the right to own guns.

All

Hey Gore is making a comeback in the Florida polls. Go big guy.........

I think when DerFarm said 50mm, he meant 50mm, not .50". He's talking about anti-armour weaponry.

Incidentally, DerFarm, I'm shocked! You spelt 'armour' with a 'u'! What's going on?
