Why the limitation in the private msgs? and what happens after the 400th msg. is there a way to increase the limit or after that pm's will be locked/disabled.

The limit is there to save database space, and after the limit is reached no-one will be able to send you PM's.

If you hit the limit you can download the PM's, either in XML, CSV, or text format. XML is the best, because then you can view it in an XML viewer (An XSLT document would be good for viewing the PM's, maybe someone could write one or there might be one for vBulletin somewhere).

You have been a member for not quite two months and you have 400 PMs stored? Why?

If, for some reason, you really need to keep them, then penagate's suggestion of downloading them would be the way to go.

To be honest, I'm not even sure why it is as high as it is.

I thought the limit originally was only 200. Maybe it was increased after that Hack issue the other week.

It had nothing to do with me. The only reason my PM box has as many messages as it does (68) is because I've haven't cleaned it out in a few days.

I was just remembering that after the attack I couldnt PM at all because I had more the 200 PM its said.

I wish I only had 68 PMs. I have alot of work to do cleaning out my box. Its many many times more then that.

But that is the thing to do here, clean out the unneeded messages from both your inbox and Sent box. Then download the messages as one of the three formats available. Then you should be good to go.

This is a very important point. Just like with online mail and/or whatever email you use at work, items in your Sent Items folder count against your PM total. In addition to your Inbox, your SentItems folder should be cleaned on a regular basis as well.

Yes, as some members may not be aware, the red and yellow portions of the PM usage bar are related to the inbox and sent box.

Brad increased it to 400 for everybody a few months ago, remember?

Yes, but because of the hack attack some of the custom PM limits were reset back to their defaults.

Mods and above have different PM quotas though that were also reset. Since the recovery they have been reinstated.

I have not reached the limit as I have only 6 Msgs in my total mail box (inbox+sent items)
I just wanted to know how this will be managed after it reaches the maximum level. so if we clean the box again we can get the space is it...

Correct, if you clean it out by deleting unnecessary PMs you will recovery more storage space.
