Honda's are cool looking but i love the Acuras!!! they kick ass!! there expensive but they look kool.
If you are into the S.U.V.'s then get a Ford Expedition, there huge ass truck/car/whatever, and you can actually tower over the road hehe ;)
Another kool car is the new chevrolet monte carlo's they are sleek looking and dont cost as much as a honda;)
Tell us what car you get when you do.
I have a job right now and I am saving up to get a car.
Yet, I have no idea what car I want.
Any suggestions?

I personally do not like fords... i will say it again ... I DO NOT LIKE FORDS... except! (Screeching tires) For the ford expeditions!, those are killer!!! i love the feeling of towering over most of the people on the road (unless someone has a really big tonka truck;) ).
You can fit like 50 people in the expedition, thats how much room it has hehehe j/k.
But my DREAM car is a 1970 Chevelle SS 454, that car just screams power!!!!, of course i will add my own little tricks too it, ..maybe a blower..posi-traction,....raise the back-end up just a bit, paint it midnight black, throw some rally rims on that *****..
I can just picture driving that car thorugh the california desert, heading towards las vegas, 2:00am..hot ass hell too! with some friends in the car of course they will be drunk but i will be wierd on coffee cause i dont want too destroy that car in a drunk driving accident ;):):):):) i better stop or i am going too start crying because i cant afford it right now;)
ah well maybe in the future eh?
But whatever you do Kovan..dont buy a piece of ****..make sure that thing is in good condition! hehe.

after work
i am going to have at a look at the following car
Honda Prelude - Lip stick red, power EVERYTHING, sun roof, brand new tires, pioner sound system with a cd playa, alarm, remote starter
1990, 170 km,
everything sounds REALLY good for a reasonable price
the only thing i have to go look at is the actual body of it
if its not rusty and there is nothing MAJOR wrong with the transmission or engine
i will be driving that baby
........get a v8 Holden, the car that powers Australia. Don't know if you have then there, but the Berlina is cool or even better the next model up which l caren're recall the name of....Damn....when are or cars up for replacement.

well for chevrolet anyways.November is there "Beginning of the year"
Hey Kovan. 170km is usually the time the engine goes Kaput.
i havent seen too many car engines go past 200km.
If you hear the engine Knock Knock Knocking...close your wallet :) and walk away.
Unless you have plans for the engine of course..

Soph hehe yep thats how it is with north american cars
but with honda's
or most jap cars
they can go WELL over 250km
the parts start to fall off from rust before the engine goes :)

I just bought a 2000 Suburban. It's great! Plenty of room for the kids and their friends (I have three teenagers). Only gets about 18 miles per gallon though. Gas prices being what they are....ouch! I've seen a lot of very old Suburbans on the road so I'm thinking it should last for a while.

Oh no you don't. Nobody in the US is allowed to complain about petrol prices. You ought to try the prices in England.
What's a suburban anyway? Tell me it's not some kind of big 4x4 truck thing, I hate it when people drive them just so they can be 6 inches higher up than the rest of the world. Or because it 'makes them feel safer'... maybe if nobody drove them we'd all feel safer! *Tries to calm down* And don't get me started on TV licenses!

Pardon my ignorance but....what are TV licenses? As for the Suburban..(Kathryn hangs her head in shame)It is a HUGE truck/urban attack vehicle. I'm 5'3" tall and need all the help I can get....actually, I live in the middle of the desert and need something that will stand up to wind, rain and be big enough for my tribe. Sorry about complaining about the gas prices...(hangs her head again).
HarryW
Oct 31st, 2000, 02:12 PM
What the heck do you want an 'urban attack vehicle' for? Do you actually live in the desert? Are you going to be using it for it's all-terrain properties? If you are then that's okay. If you need it just to fit all your kids in, then that's okay, but I cringe when I see people driving massive vehicles with noone else in them. We're going to run out of natural resources soon you know, and it'll be sooner if everyone drives a car 5 times as big as they need.
Anyway, now I've had my rant about that, TV licenses are something we pay here in the UK (I warned you not to get me started). They cost just over £100 per year, and if you're caught without one there is a fine of £2000. You would think this money was tax wouldn't you? That would seem reasonable wouldn't it? Oh no, the money goes to the BBC. Every other TV channel has to make do with revenue from adverts, they don't get a penny of your TV license fee. And don't think you can just choose not to watch BBC channels, if you watch anything on your TV you need to pay a license fee to the BBC. And what do the BBC do with the money? They spent it on really long flashy adverts for THEMSELVES!! Convincing us to pay TV licenses!! Arrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I hate it!!!!!!!!!!! *Harry runs around the room banging his head on the walls*

Is this whole TV license thing for real???? I watch the BBC America quite often. Maybe not any more!!!!
Yes, I do really live in the desert and yes we do go off-road quite often. I know we need to conserve our resources but I need to not get stuck on a desert highway at night and have no recourse.

I **** you not. You wouldn't believe they could get away with it would you? Well now they want more money for their digital service (which hardly anyone actually receives), and they want to charge one license fee per TV, instead of one per household! Cheeky bastards!
I'll let you off then ;) I didn't mean to sound accusing.... okay maybe I did ;) But if you have a real reason to have a vehicle like that then that's fine. What annoys me is people who drive in inner-city areas 95% of the time, and have massive cars which have their fuel consumption measured in gallons to the mile, just because it makes them feel superior. I cycle past a girls' school twice every day, I think it's a public fee-paying school, and whenever I go past at dropping-off or picking-up time, there's a massive convoy of 4x4 beasts all with yuppie mothers in the driving seat, parked on MY cycle path, with their rear-view mirrors turned so that they can see how their hair is while they drive. They sit there with the engine runnig so they can have the heating and air-conditioning on, and drop off/pick up their single child. Goddamnit I just want to flamethrower them all as I cycle past! *Keeps on banging his head against the wall*

I really dislike people in their big ass trucks talking on the phone, driving (by themselves) in the carpool lanes (supposed to get fined $250 if less than two people in the car). I understand your rage! but....I do need a sturdy and large vehicle out here.
Is the BBC owned by the government? If not, how do they enforce the TV license laws? Do they audit your home to see how many televisions you have? Seems that would cost more than just cutting the damned fee? Do you get anything in return besides television? What would happen if everyone just stopped watching BBC?
HarryW
Oct 31st, 2000, 03:09 PM
That's just it, you can't just stop watching the BBC. It makes no difference because whatever you watch you have to pay the BBC. It sucks.
They are nothing to do with the government. They used to be, but they have been independant (financially at least) for a long time now. License fees are a legacy from long ago when there were only two cannels; BBC1 and BBC2. Now there are 5 terrestrial channels transmitted over radio waves, and many more if you have satellite or cable. Whatever you watch though, you need to pay a license.
Don't ask me how they enforce it, it's something I've always wondered. There are such things as 'TV detector vans' that patrol the nation, checking to see who has a TV running in their house, and no doubt they have a large database of who has and hasn't paid.
When I was in halls of residence at university, everybody was repeatedly sent threatening letters by the BBC saying 'If you don't pay your TV license you'll get a big fine!! Pay up damn you!!' or something like that ;) Even if you didn't have a TV.
Do you know the really really stupid thing? They have a 25% discount for blind people.

I don't know what it's like over there but here we have ATM's you can drive up to to take out money. ALL of them have braille signs?!? Have you ever seen a blind person driving??.....I take it back..most of the people in California drive as if they're blind!

a guy passed me in reverse the other day :-)
Get a vespa. That is cool on two wheels :)
Most Holdens in Oz will run upwards of 500,000km without falling over. A friend has got an old HK Holden Kingswood wiht 720,000 on the clock, and still with the orioginal 'bluey' (186 c/in. motor) in it. Goes like a dream.
Of course the newer stuff isn't as good, cos get dust snd **** in the electronics packages nad you are royally screwed. Keep the engines simple, and you'll have motoring bliss.

I'd sooner push my Ford than drive a Holden! My old Fairlane is about to give up the ghost, it will then be replaced with a nice shiny red XR6 Falcon. For our american friends XR6 is a hot 6 cylinder favored by the police here in Australia! Check them out on http://www.ford.com.au in the Tickford section, very nice.

Hi :)
Couldn't help throwing in my 2 cents...
Old habits die hard I Guess. I am a certified auto
technician, having just recently sold a sucessful shop
(Jellyn Automotive,Klamath Falls, Or.), in February, to write software full-time. Our experience at the shop over
the years with various makes/models is as follows:
The little Hondas like you are looking at are generally
a pretty reliable car, especially if it has the 1.5L or
1.8L engine. Stay away from the auto transmission in these
due to a lack of power. Most of the Hondas that we serviced
were in for power accessory problems such as sticky windows,
inop seats, etc., and most of these were traced to defective
ground systems in one form or another. Overall, if you can
find one with less than 100k on the clock that hasn't been
abused and has been maintained, you're probably OK. A warning - parts for these (especially engine & electronics),
can get pricey pretty quick.....
If looking into American brands, I would recommend a GM product, and in particular perhaps a Saturn - We had much better cooperation with the factory and dealers on GM products than any other make. Rarely saw a Saturn for anything beyond routine maintenance. In my professional opinion, Ford simply does not show that type of quality and commitment. We were always working on Fords for some reason. Don't misunderstand me, GM isn't infallable - simply seems to be of a higher quality.
I hope that I've given some useful information.
