    [NOT! Resolved] Server problems again?

All of the forums are extremly slow. As of now it takes about a minute (using very fast cable broadband) to just load the page but VBF main page loads pretty fast. PM is also fine.

    Re: Server problems again?

It is very sporadic. Sometimes fast, but most of the time, there's a long delay.
It's been happening for 3 days like this.

    Re: Server problems again?

Sems to be a problem finding threads. Seems fast enough going back to the main thread, just can't find new threads or move between forums. I don't mean using the back button, though. It's not consistent.

    Re: Server problems again?

Slow, very slow... as I said in my original post VBF main page loads fast but not specific forums - I need to wait about 20-30 sec (but not always - like David says it's not consistant) until say VB.Classic is completely loaded (well, not exactly: until it starts showing up...). Really, it's like using 28.8 modem line.

    Re: Server problems again?

I suspect that it's a DB problem. Seems to come and go. Maybe one of the servers is having problems? Hard to pinpoint, as sometimes it is OK, and sometimes there is a huge delay.

    Re: Server problems again?

Absolutely no problems here, but then I'm not online at the times you have been posting in this thread. Probably a load issue on one of the DB servers, or possibly an ad server?

Does it say "waiting for vbforums.com" or anything in the status bar? A while back I remember it was one of the ad servers that was holding everything up. I blocked some of them using my hosts file.

Edit: I get localised ads too (e.g. au.doubleclick.net), might be due to location.

There is a great deal being done. This includes the addition of hardware as well as changes at the software level. There has been an increase in the number of spiders and bots hitting sites. Our techs have been working to identify and block these in order to keep the load down.

Additionally, traffic levels have been higher in recent weeks on the forums. If this continues, then additional hardware will be added.

    Rhino (and anyone else) -

WHen you are having 'slow refresh' times, please post either at the time it is happening or include the time when this was happening. That way I can give our sys admins the time and they can check our logs to see if there was a spider or bot at that time that we haven't blocked.

Spiders and bots are doing to the web what Spam is doing to email.

OK, well right now I have been trying to get to my CP for about 15-20 minutes and it keeps timing out.

    That's what I did - it was 12-05-2005, 04:52 PM when I posted.
But as mentioned more than once - it's inconsistent so I'm not quite sure what do you want me to post...

ok. I know our admins are watching this site as far as speed and traffic (bots/spiders). I also know they have been rolling out new hardware for many of the sites and I believe this site is in line near the top of the list as well. Traffic is also up.

    You asked - we deliver...
Here we go again! As of 09:15 AM (EST) it's almost dead - especially VB.Classic forum - I am not able to get in for about 20 minutes already. Is it because it's snowing outside?

It is taking an extremely long time to press any button, (post reply, or submit reply in particular). I can navigate to different threads quickly, but posting is a real pain. It's been like that for the last 2 hours.

Same thing all day today. Pretty poor performance, then 2 minutes of speed.
