.NET Framework and XP SP2
Can anyone show me definitive evidence that version 1.1 of the .NET Framework is or can be installed as part of Windows XP SP2? I've read many posts proclaiming that it is, but I've always had my doubts. I just installed a clean version of XP with SP2 slipstreamed into the installer and there's no sign of the .NET Framework, either installed or mentioned as an optional component.

Nope. It is still an optional download from windows update. My dad manually downloaded it on his dialup account. I had to download it also when I installed Net 2003 a few months ago.
