[RESOLVED] 2 Networks to share internet connection
Ok, I have a computer with a wireless card and built in ethernet. I connect to the neighbors network that has broadband, because I only have dial-up, but the thing is I want piped through the whole house. I also have a broadband wireless router...with no broadband. But the thing is, is that as soon as I connect the ethernet, the internet dissappears on the one computer that has the wireless card still connected to the neighbors computer. When I disconnect the ethernet, it comes back.
My dad was telling me how you can't be connected to 2 different segments.
My friend was telling me to bridge it and route it. I know how to bridge it but I don't know how to route it.
I'm running Windows XP Pro on that computer.
Diagram:
Neighbors wireless network (AP) -(Wireless)> My computer with wireless card -(Ethernet cord)> My network with a Wireless router (AP)
Basically I want to use the internet thats comming on the wireless to my own network (perferiably to my router).

If the Ap's are WDS enabled you can do AP - AP.
There's more info on WDS here: http://www.proxim.com/support/techbulletins/TB-046.pdf

What model is it?
You could use directional antennas then it would reach.

Have your router log on to his network. First, you should ask him if you can piggyback off his signal, though. Offer to secure it if he grants you access.

I found several references to this:

I found a few forums and sites that said they succesfully used it, but as it says on the page; USE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK!..

Well with software you'd have to use ISA or internet conection sharing. The problem with that is you'll have to have that machine on for all the others to access through. That's why I'd say the AP - AP route is better. Why not ask you neighnour for the password or to update the firmware? I'm assuming you neighbour's fine with you using his internet connection.

Thats not a problem to keep it on all the time. I leave my main computer on all the time . Well even if I did have his password, and his ok to put new firmware, there still leaves a possibilty that the firmware will not work properly and trash his router. I don't feel like paying for a new router for him if that happens .
I will look more into internet conection sharing. The whole reason why I'm asking is that I have never done anything like this before, I only worked with hard wired networks. The only time I have touched wireless, is on my laptop to connect to my network to transfer some files over.
Edit:
ICS is working exactly the way I want it to. Share the internet through the whole house without have to run anything extra, such as a proxy server. I knew it was something easy and stupid ^^. The real problem I was having was that the router at my house was acting as a DHCP server, and ICS acts as a DHCP server also, so I had to disable the DNCP in my router and everything worked like a charm.
