I was looking into creating a RPG Game. This will be done in VB.NET or VB6, depending on what I decide on. Instead of a 'old' time RPG, it will be based on a newer graphical RPG Text Based Stand Alone Game. Though many ideas, it would be pretty simple to create a 'single' player game. The problem is I have no experience in Winsock or any other experience in networking for a client to server and vise versa. I would like help.

Although I haven't started, I would like to get a team of a few people to start. I need more people who can help me out on these networking issues, because I'm stumped when it comes too that.

Basicly it would be like a text based RPG with a graphical interface. A sample of what I mean is here. I made it in a couple seconds. Nothing like it will be in the end. (I'd hope so!) But a example sketch of what it will be.

As it goes by artists will be needed, but are not as of right now. There are two ways I've seen a server done, one is a database, where all files are stored in for example, "ITEMS.DAT" or the other way would be creating a folder called 'Items' storing all the items per name (Gun.dat, LaserGun.dat, etc) This would only be on the server side, all the client would need would be the images and sound for quick loading, and a client.exe, perhaps a bit more.

And if you do not wish to help me with this project, could someone help me learn how to winsock program and such? I am not trying to leech here, but if someone could help me, great, if you won't and you'll teach me, thats good too. I don't mind either way! But I have no money to throw out as of now, so I would hope someone would help me, maybe on there spare time, or whenever they can, I wouldn't be a bother because I know you'd be doing it on your own free time. When we get things going and everything is well, ventually I could possibly send money around.

If anyone wishes to help program, not just winsock programming and such, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you!
