Downgrade DirectX?

I've installed DirectX 8 and i dont have ANY sound or i cant play ANY game that uses DirectX this is becource i installed DirectX 8 and my Hardware doesnt work with it :( When i still had DirectX 6 i didnt had ANY probleem.

Now my Qeustion:

How can I downgrade DirectX 8 to DirectX 6?

I seem to remember with DX8 there was a roll back in the dxdiag (located either under program files\directx or windows\system32\dxdiag.exe) even if you can't roll back you should be able to trouble shoot it.

It didnt have one
I reinstalled WIndows it works fine now :)
