I just made my first subscription today so I may be off base in suggesting this and maybe it has been brought up before, but I think it would awesome if we could have an option to have a message box pop up every time there is a new post in a thread we are subscribed to. It would act the same as PMs and it could even give you the option to open it in a new window.
I guess this might make a bigger load on the server, but I can't see how it could be worse than the current set up for PM notification and sending an email every time a thread gets a new post.

It would be terrible for us high volume posters like me and dglienna. I would get ~ 100 popups a day + PMs.
Probably the easiest thing to do is just check your Control Panel or Subscriptions page. ;)

Well thats easy to solve. Make it optional. You could add a checkbox on the "Add subscription" page to say if you want a popup (instead of email) if you are online.

Just keep another pane open. Oops. You can't use Fx, with it's tabbed browsing. I always have my UserCP open. I get a popup for PM's, so I just alt-tab and read them.

Haven't you been subscribing to threads? How do you know when they have been updated anyway then?
I just get instant notification through MSN. My VBF account is setup with my Hotmail address.

No, I just started subscribing (to the LightFusion thread) because I would normally just surf all the forums I post in and see whats new.

You do know you can just click the New Posts (http://www.vbforums.com/search.php?do=getnew) link in between the Calendar and Search links? It shows all the new posts in all forums on one page. ;)

Can't you get email notifications? I don't think they will hack the software. You know their stance on doing things that have to be updated manually.

Yeah. I guess its not all the great of a feature because I just turned on the option to have myself auto-subscribed to any thread I post in and that makes me go to the CP all the time any way so I don't need an alert so much any more.

Sorry, but dglienna is right?
Was that meant to be a question? I don't get it.
I know you don't like hacking the software so I guess this isn't an option unless the vBulletin people decide to change it.
