    Boot virus scanner

    My friend has messed up his computer (again ) and seems to have some kind of virus that does not allow his windows to start normally. Is there any antivirus that one can install without logging onto windows. So it would scan the boot files and see if they were viruses or trojans and then remove them.

    Is there such a program out there?

    Can you start in Safe Mode? Or the recovery console?
