    Carrer

Has anybody here made a career from just knowing Visual Basic. If so, how much is the average income.

But I had to pay my dues like everyone else. I went to school and college, but for a BS of Electrical Engineering degree. After that I changed and went pro with programming. I am self taught by reading books, searching online for resources, and asking questions in these very Forums.

    Re: Carrer

Its the same issue, experience. If you dont have it then you dont get decent $$$. My decision was more of a realization that since I was programming for fun for many years before I finished my BS degree, why not go into that as a career. For some reason I didnt think I could make a living at it. I like EE and Programming equally and I still like to do some Digital design every now and then. I have a AS in Robotics and a BS in Electrical Engineering. I wish I would have also did a second major in Computer Science too.

For the past 12 years, I have. Along the way I picked up SQL and worked with a variety of different report engines and databases (Oracle, SQL and even a little SyBase), but I started out with just VB.

At the moment I'm a commerical developer working for a company that makes, markets and sells several Risk Managment software programs to large insurance companies, all of which are written in VB6.

We just hired two new VB6 programmers, and it is although possible we will be adding another one before the year is out.

Oh ya, your right. To start out with VB 6 is finne but throughout your learning you will neeed to do more involved applications that will require other technologies, like mentioned, Databases, Reporting, etc. It takes time to broaden your knowledge of programming. So dont worry you will get there, just dont give up.
