OK basicly the problem is, I cant view certain sites that ARE up and working fine, including one of my own....

The 2 sites it is happening with both are .org websites, someone said that it could be that there is something wrong with my ISP which makes me have problems with .org websites? However I searched for .org websites on google and got on them ok?

Please an someone sehd some light on this situation

What browser do you have? Do you have any security products installed?
Have you checked for viruses? Use IE and go to www.trendmicro.com and run their online virus checker.

What are the actual links to the site(s)? Maybe they are just down if they both are hosted on the same ISP sever?

like on VBF we have our servers running multiple JM sites. So when the server goes down multipe sites go down. ;)

I have firefox and robdog888 - one of them is my own and the servers are fine as they are on my friends servers, i also have other sites on his server which i can acess fine.

One of the sites is www.thugz-mansion.org and when I try to view it in internet explorer i get redirected to an msn page saying

We can't find "thugz-mansion.org"

You can try again by typing the URL in the address bar above.
Or, search the Web:

And if I use firefox I get an alert box saying it could not find the site

My point, I have given the link to lots of people and it works fine but not for me :S, my internet now comes through a router, we set it up a few days ago, could it be something to do with my router? should i free up some certain ports?

Could your hosts file been attacked with a certain virus that doesnt let you directly type in those .org sites? Its a long shot but what else is there?

Netstat says its using port 3051 on my machine for Fx. I don't think the router would be blocking it, though.

Cant see the router blocking it myself because then I wouldnt be able to view other sites lol do you think it could be my ISP like I have been told?

See if you can PING the site. Just type PING and the site name (without the www's) It's possible that the hurricane wiped out some routes to the site, but I'd think that that would not be permanent or before last week.

Couldnt find it when i tried pinging

RobDog888

He cant ping it so that makes a difference while everyone else can. The sites cant be down so it may be something with his system like corrupted Windsock registry keys etc. If it was windsock then all sites would be unavailable. This is what makes me think it may be your hosts file.[/color]

Which makes me suspect a virus.

When you try to ping does it resolve the host name to an IP address?
Ie if you ping thugz-mansion.org does it say ;
pinging XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
failed...

It it say's can't find hostname OR the ip is wrong it's most likly a DNS issue.

It says it cant find the hostname, a friend of mine ordered both of those domain names that I am trying to acess from EV1 servers. Could anything have gone wrong while they were registering it?

Also I forgot to mention : Sometimes I can get on to the other site ( futureblue.org ) but sometimes I get the error i mentioned earlier, its like a 50-50 chance i get onto it lol

Just a thought,
could it be some sort of time-out issue?

robcarr2

dont think so because the error comes up almost instantly, and I am on broadband

Hmm could be a problem with your DNS server, are you using you ISP's or a local?
What should fix the problem (for now anyway) is put the ip - domain in your hosts file.
Does your web server have a static IP? If not maybe it's changing and the recourd replication is why it's not working, usually it takes a day.

Im using my ISP's and the server does have a static IP

Well stick that ip in your hosts file for now. I'd start off by checking your domain registration is correct, then check you have a DNS server listed under your network connection and maybe change it... Run AdAware, virus scan etc.

How long ago did your friend register domains - DNS information can take up to 48 hours to propgate around the world.

He registed one of them a good few weeks ago and one of them around 4 days ago
