Mozilla Thunderbird
I've recently installed the email client "Mozilla Thunderbird", and I would like to know if it is possible to set a hotmail account in Thunderbird. When i am using the thunderbird wizard to create the email account, i need to give it the incoming and outgoing server settings, however, as far as i am concerned hotmail uses the HTTP, while in thunderbird there are only Pop3 and Imap.
Any suggestions how can i set up this account ?
Thank You

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird
Are you in Windows or Linux? At least in Linux I am able to install aditional packages for Thundebird, to be able to use exchange server and so on.
But you can try with this firs:
POP3 = pop3hot.com
SMTP = mx1.hotmail.com
or
pop3: mail.pop3hot.com
smtp: mail.pop3hot.com
You can find some more info about it here:

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird
You can't set Thunderbird to use Hotmail accounts without a plug-in (There was one, but I think Microsoft changed their software so it wouldn't work). The reason is, HTTP mail is a proprietary Microsoft technology, not a standard.

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird
It isn't so much that HTTP mail is proprietary (there isn't sucha thing) so much as they don't make the mail servers publicly available, forcing you to go through the web-based interface. Part of this is for scurity so that some one can't jsut hijack their servers and use it to send out spam or other junk.
Now, according to this page if you want to pay $20-$60 a year, you could then access your HM account via Outlook (but it doesn't say anything about other mail clients.)

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird
My Outlook access stopped for a bout a week when that announcement came out, but just when I was getting ready to change all my accounts, they turned it back on.
I wonder if it was because I started manually forwarding all my hotmail to my other account?
I have always used my ISP to send hotmail messages, anyways.

When you say "access", do you mean POP your hotmail?
Moxxu - I've converted from IE to Firefox. Is it worth it to convert from Outlook to Thunderbird?
