HI EVERYONE!

THERE IS SOMETHING THAT IS REALLY BAD ON THIS PAGE. THE FORUMS ARE VERY GOOD, BUT THERE IS ALSO A REAL BAD THING ABOUT THE FORUM!

WHEN SOMEONE POSTS AN EASY QUESTION, IT WILL BE ANSWERED SOON, AND GO TO THE TOP OF THE FORUM! BUT WHAT IF YOU HAVE A REAL HARD QUESTION? IT DISAPPEARS AFTER HALF AN HOUR!

MY SUGGESTION:
A FORUM FOR THE NOTANSWERED QUESTIONS!!

PLEASE EVERYBODY WHO HAS THE SAME INTEREST POST HERE, TOO, SO PERHAPS SOMEONE WILL CHANGE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!

Yeah, this has been a small topic earlier but never got much attention! I think this problems has been more and more urgent since more and more posts are posted per hour, especially in the genereal q/a section. So it would be great for both those who ask the qwestions and those who answer if they could see all the unanswered posts!!!

How bout giving the thread starter the option of clicking a link and having the thread moved to an answered section.

that would also help alot Chimp!

Just something to get the chance to get hard questions answered without cheating and putting on posts, that say nothing, to move it to the top again!

A very good suggestion /\/\isanThr0p, because sometimes threads don't even get read because they go off the page so fast, sometimes I see a person post to get it to the top and I realize that I've never even seen that post before (to tell it was posted a while ago, you look at the date/time by the name). And instead of posting, "I just wanted to get this to the top to get people to read it" (or something like this), have a choice to move it to the top. Of course, if this were to happen, let's all be mature about this and not keep moving it to the top everyday .

I think that there should be a Newbie , Intermediate, Advanced, and MISC forums instead of just 1 big VB Q and A forum

I was thinking of something like this dimava, but you know how people are, everynody would post in the pro forum, cause he thinks that's the place where the pro's hang around!
And Matthew I think this option you were talking about is an ideal thing in an ideal world, but not in ours! It would start 'click-wars' in a forum that really has niveau in the moment!

Yes the division into more forums would have advantages, how often is there the how to move pictures in the Games forum!

WEll, Not Newbie Immediate and Advanced forums but maybe the option to sort out the posts by putting like custom filters on the top of the forum:
max < 2 replies
max < 15 views
and/or
- No database qwestions
- No internet and network qwestions
....
and/or (maybe thats a good idea after all)
- Newbie Q's
- Intermediate Q's
- Advanced Q's
and, sort off and on:
members posted in that thread,
members that started that thread.
contains a word, like when you search the forum.

What do you think`?

I have an idea,
not sure how good it is though,

Ok... you have a thread, you get a reply, then you "vote" on that reply,
only 2 choices(NO, not good, bad, etc)

Helped
and
Didn't Help

If they chose didn't help, it gets brought to the top, if they chose Help, then it is moved to an "answered questions forum"...

I know this would be moderatly hard, but John, Then you can charge more for vB :D
that won't be good for the purchaser's, but I am sure you won't mind...

;)

Yes without insulting the guy who gave you an answer! there would have to be something like not enough, but I don't like this idea too much.
Just a forum, where 2 days unanswered post will be moved to.

sorry for this 'double posting'.
It woul be the only way not to give the responsibility not to users, but there should definetely a option to say that a thread is answered.

I think it would be nice with just a bit more advanced search options. You could for instance search for all <2 posts, what do you think?

I wish there was a forum for "answer my question without
any knowledge of what it is for free, because I'm too damn
lazy to look up the answer".

I really irks me that some of these guys don't do any work
on their own. And I'm not talking about the numbos can't
see the page in front of them. Lord knows, I've spent
hours trying to find out how to use some stupid beginner
function like rnd(), simply because I'm too tired to think
straight.....

Well, anyway, that's my ***** for the day

John

Every one wants this one. Please do something about it. Just a forum for unanswered questions based on date entered, how about something like questions which haven't been answered in 7 days.

James

Tell John to stop stock taking his wine cellar and to get on with it.

kedaman

So you don't have the answers to all vb questions......:):)

Hello,

Thanks for all the good ideas everyone - I'll consult with John about getting some kind of "unanswered questions" forum in the next few months.

All the best,

James

Thanks to the hard working James who has taken notice of the increased interest in this thread. Now if he can get John away from his wine cellar/the local pub/the local golf course we may get some action on this issue.

Looks like your post did a very good impression at James! And you know, i know all the answers to the vb qwestions, but i don't know the qwestions..

Oct 18th, 2000, 04:10 PM
Yes we know you know all the answers....thats why there are so many unanswered questions....lol....yeap wish l could think of some questions as well, but everytime l do one of the guys in the office has the answers ready:(

part of the problem is users don't know to CLOSE their questions when they get an answer, and I think that that issue will be true for having feedback areas too, many people get their answers, say thanks and forget about it leaving their post indistinguishable from unsolved ones (I do this too!!)

I think you should have an option that the question creator can mark for UNSOLVED to signify that they have not got a satisfactory answer.

once flagged you could have a special section for looking at them.

in order to clean out such a section you would have to have a rule like "The responsibility lies with the creator to remark the question us unsolved else the flag will dissappear 2 weeks after the date of the last post" or something, else the section would become the same as the current situation.

many advanced users would like an area of unsolved posts. and if you made it so you could not post directly to the unsolved section the interest for the problem solvers would be held as only genuinly unsatified people would be there

Yep Paul, I think that's another thing that John never got working on because ppl said "That would be too complicated" as soon as i posted it :( what's so complicated about having three options instead of two:
1. UNSOLVED
2. SOLVED
3. CLOSED

It's not that hard...
just copy and paste the locked code, and modify it a little...

Oct 29th, 2000, 07:16 PM
.....that's a good idea kedaman.

Dennis

Are you offering your services.

kedaman
Oct 29th, 2000, 07:35 PM
Hehe, you've been admitting that many times lately Jethro, i've been coming up with very good ideas lately, look at Dennis for instance, btw Paul had this idea too and some other good points.

Oct 30th, 2000, 01:43 PM
No, I am not offering my services....
