you know you're really bored when you write something as long as that!

In case your wondering it was for my sig :)

Penagate, I hope you wont mind if I'll borrow your post#1 in my sig also. :)

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:34 AM
Sure. :)

I also wrote one on using vB codes:
http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=349477

and resolving threads:
http://www.vbforums.com/showpost.php?p=2086551

Just thought some of it was missing from the FAQ ;)

You are offering me all of that? Hmmmnnnn... Can I just borrow your signature then. :D

penagate

:D

If you think of anything more or that needs to be changed...

dee-u
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:41 AM
Perhaps you should tackle about giving negative reputations also. :)

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:52 AM
Hmm :)
If a member is impolite or spams then you can give them a negative rep point. However, if you do that it is common courtesy to leave a comment explaining why you did so.
What else should I add. Seeing as the link is to my post most people won't see the rest of the thread, so if there is anything you feel I should add to those two sentences (based on recent experience maybe? ;)) then I will edit it.

"Disagreeing doesnt necessarily means disapproving, it would be nicer if one would just reply (or perhaps PM) to someone's post for the poster's guidance. Giving negative (or positive) reputation should be done with a just and 'reasonable' reason."

Something like that?

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 03:30 AM
I added a couple of sentences to "How do I give reputation" and also a section "I got a negative rep, why" further down.

:)

dee-u
Jul 18th, 2005, 03:44 AM
Nice one there Penagate. :)

...only if is generally offensive...

Just a little question, I think there is something wrong in your above sentence. :)

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 03:52 AM
You're right it is a bit open to interpretation. I changed it :)

I'm not actually sure of how to define a situation where you would give a negative rep. I have only done it twice and the last one was because a lot of people (including me) spent time helping the poster and then he basically said we were all wrong and not to waste his time, which rather angered me. And I have only received one negative one which was one of the first reps I received and I have no idea who gave it to me or why.

you did.

But I left a detailed note in the comment field and also my name. That reminds me, do you think I should add a sentence or two about retaliatory negative reps?

Very nice FAQ penegate. :thumb: ;)

Could you make the sub-subjects in black bold so they stand out more?

Also, the Power calculation is missing the 1 point every member gets by default.

Power explained a little more and maybe you could add an example calculation so they can understand more?

Mine:
1 - Default.
4 - four complete years on the forums.
3 - 3 multiples of 4,000 posts.
0 - less then 1,000 rep points.

My Power = 8 currently, but coming up on 9 with only 800 more posts to get another multiple of 4,000 posts. :D

Could you make the sub-subjects in black bold so they stand out more?Yeah they were a bit faint. I made them a darker grey. Navy is your colour, grey is mine ;)

Also, the Power calculation is missing the 1 point every member gets by default.By default the power is 1, however, you receive one extra point of reputation power;)

Power explained a little more and maybe you could add an example calculation so they can understand more?I added the calculation, is there any more explanation I should add?

Oh, ya. Your also missing the "Disabled" rep Gem indicator. ;)Cheers, added :)

The image would be good thanks :)

I'm writing in a list of the different levels at the moment. I keep getting the "You have included too many images" error

RobDog888
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:19 PM
Yes, thats why I had to make the 5 Gems + images using PhotoShop because you can only have something
like 20 IMG tages in a post. I can attach more images for 2 Gems - 4 Gems to help reduce the # of IMG tags?

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:22 PM
Don't worry, I did the 2 and 3 and 4 is two 2's (Figure that out )... Also I took out some smileys.

Also we are missing one rep level. Go look at the codeguru member list
http://www.codeguru.com/forum/memberlist.php?&order=DESC&sort=reputation&pp=30&ltr=

cilu has 5 green + 5 light green rep gems.

Plus I read somewhere there was a level "User has a reputation beyond repute"...

Do you reckon it is 1500 reps? That seems to be the number on other vB forums.

RobDog888
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:33 PM
Possibly but we can just update the thread when cilu hit it and updates the FF thread with the actual number?
I updated my post with all the Gem levels and post counts and have no issues with img tags. You should be well under it according to my count.

penagate
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:44 PM
Updated. I had to remove the :) smiley at the end of the post to fit in 20 images. maybe I shouldn't have had 3 of the single gem...

RobDog888
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:48 PM
Just use each of the images I made for the gems so you dont have to use multiple IMG tags to replicate it. ;)

I also updated post #19 with the next level - 1100 - 1299 because cilu updated the CG thread stating it was 1300 posts.

RobDog888
Jul 18th, 2005, 02:50 PM
I noticed that you took out the disabled Gem and placed it in the listing. Wouldnt it be best to keep it back where it was? This way you dont have to show the red gem in the gem count for symmentry

Oh yeah I saw that too but forgot. Thanks :)

I didn't replicate any of the images, I meant the 3 different tags that all have 1 gem.

RobDog888

What if it just showed the different gem levels instead of the tooltip levels? Then you could wipe out the first 2?
Also, cilu told me that their is different tooltip levels between 500-749 I believe, where the tooltip changes but not the gem count.

For symmetry I moved it to the top of the list :)

I put it there because it fits as an explanation of what you see below the users post count. To the extent of my knowledge you can't receive a black rep turning up in your User CP which was the subject of the original subtopic I had it in.
