OK, so i'm gonna get flamed for this, but here goes!

I've read a few past threads about it, but i thought i'd raise a similar point

I was discussing programming languages with a colleague. I told him I prefer to develop in vb, but he thinks I should begin learning C++ because (and i quote) 'it's miles faster'

I know the compiled code should in most cases be noticeably faster, but what about development time - am I right in thinking that normally takes longer to develop in c++, or is that a load of old rubbish??

I'm not trying to decide which is the best language (for me, the best one has to be the one I know), but just to see what a few other people think??

I wouldn't think it takes much more time to develop in C++. The only thing would be Forms and that stuff, but all the other code should just as fast to make.

Would be nice with a C++/VB-in-one solution, the best of two worlds.

Microsoft is actually creating such a solution?
If they do, I'm saying bye bye to pure VB. All the possibilites that opens.

they reckon so, quite whether it'll be any good remains to be seen

check out http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/ne...sharpintro.asp for more details

you should be able to get a beta of the new visual studio soon, if you get msdn.

beware - they reccomend a pIII 733 with 256 meg to run it though!!
