    Chirac slates British food...

Ok, I know that the French and British haven't exactly seen eye to eye lately (what with the row over the EU budget and the rival bids for the olympics) but is this really necessary? Chirac jokes about British food
French President Jacques Chirac is reported to have cracked jokes about British food at a meeting with the German and Russian leaders on Sunday.

French newspaper Liberation says Gerhard Schroeder and Vladimir Putin laughed and joined in the banter.

"The only thing they (the English) have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow disease," it quotes Mr Chirac as saying, within earshot of reporters.
    ...
"One cannot trust people whose cuisine is so bad," Mr Chirac went on, according to the newspaper's report.

"After Finland, it is the country with the worst food."
    ...
Mr Chirac is also reported to have reminisced about an occasion when Lord George Robertson, the former Secretary General of Nato, had made him try a Scottish dish.

"That is where our difficulties with Nato come from," he said.
The French arrogant attitude towards their own food, and their disdain towards British food, may have been somewhat justified in the past, but times have changed. Not that any frenchman would ever find out, being so convinced of their gastronomic superiority, they wouldn't even give it a chance...

I thought, Europeans viewed American food as the worst. You can pry my grease/sugar filled food from my cold dead hands.

You shouldn't have to wait too long.

Apparently, Chirac would rather have a hamburger than subject himself to what Britain has to offer...

So he said what everyone else in his country thinks about British food. Big deal. Did our feelings get hurt?

Britain now has more Michelin stars than France.

I must admit that I do enjoy eating in France as I go to Brittany quite often. Their seafood dishes are delightful...but then I am a big seafood lover.

Exactly ... French food is so much better than English food. Half our dishes are stolen from other cultures anyway
