Read on.
To find square roots without a calculator
1. Seperate the digits in pairs first, like this 78 59 55 43 43
2. Find the nearest square to 78, it is 64.
3. 8*8 = 64. So divisor is 8, quotient is 8 and remainder is 14.
4. Carry remainder forward 14 59.
5. Double the divisor 8*2 = 16.
6. Now find the closest number to 1459 , append a digit at the end of 16 and multiply the same digit with the 3-digit number obtained as a result.
7. 168*8 = 1344. Subtract it from 1459 you get 115 as remainder.
8. Carry remainder forward again 115 55.
9. Double the end digit of the divisor, 168 and add the carry to ten`s place.
10. You will get 176. Applying step 6 above, you get 1766*6 = 10596.
11. Subtract it from 11555. Remainder is 959. Carry it forward, you get 95943 as dividend.
12. Apply step 9 to 1766 and you will get 1772. Then apply step 6 to 1772 and you will get 17725*5 = 88625.
13. Subtract it from 95943. You will get 7318 as remainder, carry it forward and you get 731843 as dividend.
14. Applying step 9 to 17725 you get 17730 and applying step 6 gets you 177304*4 = 709216.
15. Subtract it from 731843 and you get 22627 as remainder.
16. Now add pairs of zeroes after the decimal place. Continue applying steps 9 and then 6.
I will not further discuss the problem, you have not mentioned to how many decimal places you want an answer.
Hope that helps.

Are you allowed to use a calculator which only does add, subtract, multipy, & divide? Id est: A calculator without a square root function.
