What is the difference between VB6 and VB.NET?

They are two almost completely different programming languages.
VB.NET is NOT an upgrade from VB6. This is what is irritating allot of programmers.

The differences are like night and day. Soooo many to list that I recommend a search since it has been discussed
many times already ;)

oh, I saw a beta of VB Express 2005 and I was going to download it, but I didn't have XP SP2. I though it was an upgrade.... :blush:

Scheme nothing. If you don't want to move to .NET, don't. In fact, I'd appreciate it if you didn't. Stick w/ VB6, or what ever language. Just means more opportunity for the rest of us.

but you can't deny, this is also part of their marketing strategy to push everybody into .net framework and it is a fact :-\ and i call it a scheme coz they use the free stuffs to get / attract people to download the framework

I've said it before. Marketing is more important than technology today. Technology XYZ may be far better than VB.NET, but it's VB.NET that will be more popular. It's been marketed better and will be prefered by companies. Which is why everyone's thinking about switching to .NET but some are still scared...

Well, sooner or later, some ppl (those with "The buck stops here" signs on their foreheads) are gonna get fed up having to pay again and again for the same software (their point of view), gonna hear about opensource, and say de hell with M$.
I mean.... we say .Net is sooooo wonderfull, but the JVM (basically the same thing if you ask me) is available for years allready, and can be used on any platform. Sure you can say the same of your .net apps, but have you tried it?

Don't worry, I'm still a MS man (damn, I work for them!!!)

Enterprise level Java apps are more expensive to deploy. Among other things.
