Play back video CDs in DVD

If I burn short movies -video clips. rather- on CD, will they be played back on a DVD player? What are the file format and compression requirements?

As long as your DVD player supports the use of recordable CDs (most new ones do), simply use something like Nero and burn them as VideoCDs and it will work fine.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Re: Play back video CDs in DVD

    What burner are you using?
If you use NERO, you can burn a mini-dvd on a CD-R.
A DVD disc requires a few things
    a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directory.
VIDEO_TS should contain a *.VOB files and VIDEO_TS.IFO and *.IFOs or *.BUP's for each *.VOB.

The VIDEO_TS file contains much info about your movie, which region, pal/ntsc. Infact there is a neat very small program to look at the IFO files and even edit them...ie Region Free. It is called simple IFOEDIT, google that and you should find it.

Now, there is more to the DVD than those directories, that I haven't found out, cause I've built up the DVD from completly scratch before and if I just burn the files it fails, you have to burn it using MINI-DVD or with a DVD use DVD VIDEO in NERO 6.6 or higher. 6.0-6.3 do not support DVD's (i think).

    I hope this answers much.

I have little experience and only once have I burned a DVD. I tried with a RW just in case I screwed up. To create the files I used Ulead VideoStudio 6 with which I also captured the video clip (from a video tape).
For CD burning I have Roxio Easy CD cretor.

Remember, to play VideoCDs in home DVD players, you will need to burn to the VideoCD or SuperVCD standards. These types of discs use the MPEG and MPEG 2 codecs respectivly. All you have to do is ensure that they are short enough in time to fit on the discs.
