Hello VB developers,

For about 2 weeks I have been gathering information for a game that will kinda be like the Sims by Maxis, except its a first person game.

-3D city
-Vehicles(Cars,Airplanes[To other cities],etc)
-Jobs(Real life kind of jobs)
-Law Enforcement(Special users will take exams and test their marksmanship, etc in game and be chosen as street cops, detective, SWAT, etc)
-Houses(Rent apartments in the city or own a house in the valley)
-Drivers(Drivers will take a test like in real life)

The game will act as reality...
The game will be internet only...

Vehicles
I have been doing research on many kinds of vehicles, such as real life price, weight, fuel tank size, MPG, Max passenger, max speed, etc.
Vehicles will be allowed to drive on the streets, with all the functions their real life counter parts have(Even MP3 streaming via the car steoro).
The user will purchase the car from another user's store at a set price and will have sole access to it besides(Law Enforcement/Admins).
Jobs
Jobs is a common aspect in games such as this and will play an important role for users to meet others.
A few jobs I have thaught of:
-Bank(Teller, Banker, Security guard, etc)
-Sales(Can sell anything if the house type is a store)
-Law Enforcement(See below topic: Law Enforcement)
-Government Officials (Elected by other users)
Law Enforcement
The game will have law enforcement for the reason some users will get out off hand, driving while drunk(Yes, like in real life), robbing(Only if owning a gun), etc.
Law Enforcement have a special attribute to drive special law enforcement vehicles, enter a house(If Government official-Judge grants warrant)
Drivers
The game is realistic and so people know they cant just purchase a car and start driving, they wont be able to drive unless they pass a drivers test, they can enter the car but not drive.
Weapons
Weapons are normally for law enforcement but some guns will be purchaseable by normal users for a price and if they pass a test on handling guns. Yet again users will need to be tested before use of a weapon or car, because in the game these items are deadly to other users...(Reviving is possible at Hostipal)
Information Database
Law enforcement will have access to a database of Car information and Crimnal record of users (No Personal information).
Cars are assigned with a license number attached to the users data...
Buy Items
Users will be able to purchase furniture, appilances, lighting, entertainment, etc for a price at user run stores...
Game Engine
Although I don't have a specific game engine in mind, but gravity will be a big issue as in with vehicles(Weight, Fuel tank size, speed, etc) will be a big part...
Overview
The project is completely volunteer because all available funs(Which is small) is going towards 3D Objects for the game(3D Studo Max files)....
Release Date
The release date is unkown, but its not timed. It cant take as long as you want to take.
Selling Game
Once the game is done, and its out of beta testing, We will sell the game itself and a monthly subscription for users.
Everyone will get equal pay once we start selling....

Open Positions:
-DirectX 3D experts
-Game Engine developers (FPS/RPG) That will work with the above information
-Client/Server expert for games. Because the game is internet based 1 city or 1 server will allow all users to connet to that city and start at their house or the Welcome point. More cities will be added in the future
-3D Object Artists
-And anything else i may have forgotten that involves the game.

Remember, there is no set release date, so this project cant take as long as you want.

Interactions between users

Some interactions like fighting and shooting dont require the other user to accept the interaction. But in the case someone is hurt, another user with access to a cell phone or normal phone can dial 911 and law enforcement users will arrive ASAP, if no LEs are online, the victim or eye witness will be SOL for a little while but like in real life they can report at the Police station, an amublence service is also available both user or AI, if users are online that are EMTs they will be notified, if no users are online then the AI EMTs will go help out. If the victim dies, they will revive 24 hours later.

Services
If you have access to a phone you can order food, call for a maid(if own house), 911, etc

Unlike in the sims, you can't build a house, there will be suburbs where hundreds of pre-made houses will be for sale and apartments in the city...

Cities
In the start, there will be 1 city. But there will be an airport in the future to travel to inter-connected cities live in.

More Info on Game Engine
The game engine part for cars and damage is going to be very specific, lets say a user shoots at the window it will first crack at impact point and after 2-4 more shots will will break into shards. If tire is shot, tire goes flat, If car is going at excessive speed, control of car is greatly lowered. Certain cars will have high rollover rate(SUVs), etc....

Interactions in the car
Some of the cars in real life have a moon roof, car stereo system, etc and the user will be able to control these functions. And your friends can get into the car if its unlocked with you.
Objects
Flashlights, Guns, Knives, Computers, etc will be in the game for use as well as daily objects:
-Laundry mat areas, to get clean clothes which will reflect on your appearance to others.
-School(AI Kids)
More Info. on party places
There will be bars(Where you can get drunk and your reaction speed will lower), dance clubs, etc.
Communcation Systems
-Voice Chat within room areas
-Private Mesaging
-Public Chat window per property
Remember, that some of these ideas can be modified by developers who want to be involved with the game.
All developers, artists, etc will be listed in the credits

Just wondering if you ever started work on this or anything? Seems a bit ambitious.. but I like seeing how far some of these crazy ideas get.

I got research and data collected for when the game engine is done.

Car data (Real life data and gravity info to calculate into world)

Thats pretty much it, but i need more developers to get the engine working.

Im not very good with 3d and DX effects and stuff, Id be able to help code the game itself, but not the graphics engine. Drop me a line if you need a hand someday and Ill probobly be willing to help out a bit.

** UPDATE **

I was brain storming with a view gamers intrested in giving feedback on what this game should be like and the thought of:
-Water(Swimming)
-Being able to access another players car/house if they owner forgets to lock
-Flying aircraft
-High Quality impact to cars(Very detailed damage)

Basically there is 5 programs in this game:
-Client Game
-Server(Which holds one city)
-Updater(Verify no files were modified)
-City Editor
-Object Editor(Create/Edit objects)

Remember, Even though there is no cash in the begining, once I get a team together to get started on the game engine, I can start getting sponsors like companies who may want to put an advertisement inside the game and if its a car company, using their cars inside the game with all the logos and such...

So if you're reading this thinking its just a free game you wont see a dime, profits(Once released) will be dived equally.

Also, this project wont be a quick job, we can take as long as we need to finish it.

All your ideas seem really great.. But VERRRYYY almost overly ambitious. Have you worked on a complex 3D program before?? Have you actually ever completed any sort of project?

I would love to help you and dedicate some time to this if I thought a small team had any chance of finishing it.

If you have never worked on a larger scale project like this. I would suggest finding someone with experience leading a team to organize all people's efforts. So we can get like weekly builds of our progress and have some cohesion on who is doing what and when.. You know what I mean?

I would help with the game engine and sound however if you can get the ball rolling.

Actually I havent been in any high level game development teams, I just know what gamers want and have done the research on what objects need to be put in...

Its not easy finding people to join this team, mostly because its not a paying job until it gets released....

People wont need to be experts, just know enough, the project is learning expiernce/top of the line game...

BTW, if you have AIM/MSN/Yahoo instant messagner, be much easier to communicate...

Im also starting on a few of the components, such as designing the GUI for the city editor and such right now...

On a side note about sound...

I was thinking it may be possible to create zones around sound creating objects like a music device and such where their are zones:

Infront of object(Close): Clear sound with equal volume as set.
Behind of object(Close): Muffled sound with lower volume
Behind of object(Far): Muffled sound with almost no volume.
