Network 2 PCs
Myself and a friend have a desktop PC each and we are considering networking them up.
Both have standard Ethernet cards so would it just be a case of connecting them via a network cable? Or do I need some software of some type.
They will mostly be used for gaming purposes.
Thanks

If it's just the 2 pcs all you need is a crossover cable

Is that all that would need doing? No need for a hub, or any sort of configuration?

some info

maybe this is just for sharing files it might not be suitable for gaming but I don't see why it shouldn't be. Perhaps someone else can shed more light on it.

Re: Network 2 PCs
DeadEyes is correct - 2 PCs can be networked if they are connected by a specially wired cable (crossover cable).
All you have to do is manually set up your IP addresses, as you won't have any DHCP server around to give you an address.
You can make them:
192.168.0.2 and
192.168.0.3
Give them both a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
and a Gateway of 192.168.0.1 (this wont actually do anything in this case.)
Nobody knows what software they want until after you've delivered what they originally asked for.
Don't solve problems which don't exist.

actually, if your both using windows XP all u'll need to do is run the "create home or small office network" wizard found on the right hand side of my network places. this will do everything for you.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
