RTS = Real Time Strategy. Involves you playing from "gods eye view" and manipulating all of the forces in your command. Where this differs is that your game normally has a beginning, a middle and an end of roughly equal proportions.

RPG = Role Playing Game. Involves you acting in the role one, two or several individuals in a party of (usually) adventurers. Normally there is a strong storyline to go with the adventure, which you and your party seek to reveal. Normally has a beginning, loooong middle, and short end.

May be played in Real Time or not. Many of the more modern examples are real time such as Diablo and DarkStone. In my opinion these should be labelled Real Time Action Role Playing Game.

Sadly, RPG's died with Ultima IV. Nowadays it's all about graphics and not so much about role playing/problem solving ...

I must disagree with you here. Check Baldur's Gate.

Baldurs Gate looks good, has a strong storyline and all of that jazz, but I just cannot get on with the AD&D spell system - it sucks! At least at low levels. I'd be much happier with a mana system. I know that's a sacrilege to any die-hard AD&D fans but I just don't like it which is a shame cos I really want to play through the story. I have the game in case you hadn't guessed.

He means truly good RPGs where character development and an absorbing storyline is the main focus of the game, rather than the flashy visuals and fast action of nowadays. Obviously there are still a lot of RPGs around, in fact probably more now than ever before. Flight sims have taken something of a nose-dive (sorry) recently, and millions of samey RPGs have arrived.

All right, I think I´m getting the picture....

RTS´s would be Command&Conquerer, Red Alert, Dune, Total Annhilation, Transport Tycoon and Sim City, Ground Control, Close Combat etc.

And RPG´s would be Ultima, Diablo (gotta say Diablo II is great), Final Fantasy etc.

Am I right?
What do you call games like Quake, Doom and Unreal?

I can't say because I have never played them...but you can try to catigorize them yourself. The catigorys are:
Stratigy(rts)
RPG
Simulation
God-games(like simcity)
Sports
...
Can you think of any more,Harry?
