crystal reports and stored procs

can anyone explain to me how to create a crystal report (8.5) that is connected to a stored proc (sql server 2000) which will be called from a vb app (vb6). the stored proc will have parameters (one or many) and some of the parameters can be omitted (proc expectiong 4 values and only receives 3).
