Tag to request admin to reclassify post? [RESOLVED]

I know that sometimes an admin or moderator moves a post to another forum category in their own judgement, but I was wondering if there is a way to explicitly request this action in your own post if the poster really isn't sure which forum would be best suited for the post.

There is the Report Bad Post icon (which I have never used). Hmmm, does that provide an area to add a message explaining why you think the post is bad? If so, I suppose I could request reclassification there, as long as that function does not count against anyone.

    Perhaps
    [RequestReclassification /]

Edit: Oh well, the icon does not show up for your own posts, so some modification would be needed.

Engineer - I think we should put our website address on our paper catalogs.

I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. ... and it probably never will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that's all I have :-(.

Question. Do you know that the character "?" means I'm asking a question? Question. Do you know that spoken inflection also provides the same cue? So please don't say, "Question" before you ask your question. Believe me I'll know.

That said, I would have said this first if it had to precede what I'm telling you now. Having said that, what I'm telling you now is the same thing I just said about the annoying phrases "That said" and "Having said that".

Re: Tag to request admin to reclassify post?

"Report bad post" is for posts which are in violation of the rules of the site (the AUP, see near the bottom of any page on this site).

If a thread has been created in the wrong place then hopefully the moderator of that forum will notice it, and move it appropriately. Of course we aren't perfect so we don't see them all, and as we are volunteers we don't always come here often enough to spot them quickly.

The best answer is to send a PM to the moderator of the forum you posted to, and ask them to move it for you (and next time try to post in the right place to start with ). To see who moderates each forum you can just go to the front page of this site.

Red face Re: Tag to request admin to reclassify post?

    MartinLiss,
Is there a "report post" link, or did you mean "Report Bad Post"?

    si_the_geek,
I'm saying I'm too stupid to know the best forum for the post.

For instance, I just posted "Email Header for Outlook Flag for Follow Up?" in Classic Visual Basic, but maybe it should have been in VBA (due to the MS Outlook requirement), or Distributed Computing (multi-tier development) (due to the general email header requirement.)

If it covers a range of topics post in the general forum, if you are really unsure Pm a moderator but in most cases where you are unsure you will be fine in the general forum.

That said we do encourage you to post in the correct forum, because you will recieve a faster and in most cases expert reply

Please correct me if i am wrong on this martin/si

Oh! Then the best thing to do is to PM the forum's moderator (which is what si suggested in the first place ).

Thumbs up Re: Tag to request admin to reclassify post?

    Okay, thanks.

For a case in point, my post http://vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=322884 got no reponse but my own resolution. It probably was more suited for the Distributed Computing (multi-tier development) forum -- although I really don't know.

At this time, I formally request sanctuary in the appropriate forum for that thread (for the benefit of those who may need that solution).
