[UK] Travellers - Should We Be Afraid

The man next door was almost beaten to death by a group of travellers on Christmas eve for going to retrieve some of his tools that they stole. He's still in intensive care, has had braain surgery and is at this moment unable to walk. Although the police have the names and addresses of the perportraitors they refuse to go near them. :(

I know for a fact that not all travellers are like this, the majority are descent human beings, so why are the police so afraid of bringing those in the wrong to justice?

As to why the cops won't go near them? Probably because of the "Human Rights", flippin' PC brigade again! :mad:
And of course, the main problem I would imagine is getting the evidence

The guys son next door knows where they live and apprently there were loads of people watching, but the police wouldnt' go to the caravan park and question any of them as witnesses.

I don't know about traveler caravans. If they are anything like the traveling tent cities (worthless tax sucking piece of sheit mentally sick fooking skumbags) in the US there numbers are usually in the high hundreds of people. Aren't the cops in the UK still foolishly unarmed? probably not worth getting a bunch of cops beat to death for a set of tools. Not saying it's right but that's probably their reasoning.

your neighbor is or what not.The problem is that if I started a fight on one of them, because a member of my family had been hurt by them, then it would be ME under assault charges. Our judicial system gives more rights to the perpetrator than the victim. Sad, but true.
It's even worse for me because I am a black belt, so if I punched someone in self-defence and drew blood (which I probably would), instead of being charged with Assault I am charged with Assault with a deadly weapon. Another 5 years jail on top.

It's just not worth getting involved, which is why there are few cases of people helping a stranger in trouble. :(

The problem comes from the judicial system. They hand out fines which deserve jail sentences. Jails are more like hotels. Police have few powers. It is usually assumed that the victim initiated the fight :mad:

yea..but don't move to Illinois, laws for acquiring firearms and carrying firearms suck there. Come to Indiana, it easy to get a gun and concealed carry permit here. As long as you have a clean criminal record you can buy a gun in about 25 minutes. You can have your Conceal Carry permit in about 4-6 weeks. But you don't have to have a permit to own or transport a gun. Only to transport it loaded and have it on your person (i.e. walk around with it in public). :)

Anyway I was just up in Chicago at the beginning of Dec for a conference. We coulda hooked up and partied :(

Other countries sound alot nicer than this country I must confess.

I live in a good area with low crime rates but I have had 2 attempts to climb through my window while I am sleeping and one attempt on my car (nobody else in my family has had one crime to worry about since we moved here :cry: )

The law in the Uk is very much oriantated in the favour of the criminal. They keep talking about changing it but they wont because they are too cowardly to commit themselves to do it. The police are just as powerless because anything they do that harms someone starts an investigation. Many officers are placed under investigation even when they have to shoot an armed man to protect themselves or others.

The criminals who are caught are locked up for stupid amounts of time. Murder can get you 8 years but you can be released after 4 for good behaviour. Assualt can get you 2 months or something stupid and then money laundering or less harmful crimes can get you 5 years. The system is screwed.

Add to that any kids below 16 or something cant be arrested and just get sent away becasause equal rights says they dont know what they are doing :mad: :mad:

This country needs to be turned around when it comes to crime prevention. There is nothing for these criminals to fear.

The culture doesnt help because binge drinking is a big thing here and that causes probably 80% of all violent crimes :cry:

it's the same in the US. cops aren't initiated untill they are investigated for doing something against the rules. it's a way of life around here. I've know very few good cops in my life. Even when I was a kid, my neighbor was a good cop, but I didn't see what he did when I wasn't around. My friends swore that he was a jerk, though.
