OCR: Optical Character Recognition

Hi,

I need to development an OCR application.

I was wondering if anyone could share a bit of their knowledge with me to help me start in the good direction.

I have the scan of many receipts in PDF file.

I need to retrieve the date and receipt number on each receipt. That information is located at specific emplacements on the receipt.

I will have large amount of .PDF file to process. For all .PDF, I have to read the date and number on each receipt of the .PDF file and insert that information in a database table.

I've been testing many OCR SDK during the last 2 weeks.

ABBYY FineReader, OmniPage, LeadTools ...

They all are great products, but totally out of price (over 5000$ US + Run-Time Licenses ... bringing this to near 7000$).

Anyone knows a product that would be considered are very good but at a lower price? (around 2000$)
