Forum Speed
With the new version, it takes allot more time for pages to load. I was wondering
if others are experiencing similar delays? I would assume that the new version
is more resource intensive?
I am running, at work, a PIII 550 w/ 327 Mbs RAM.

Re: Forum Speed
Speed is more a factor of your internet connection and bandwidth rather than your machine.
I have not noticed a slow down, but I'm on a relatively fast connection.

Re: Forum Speed
I am on a fast connection too, with a relatively fast computer. Using FF, FF renders the page faster for me, but I can't see that there is so much more to download then it used to be. About the same speed I guess.

Re: Forum Speed
I have a full T1 at work and I noticed that when the page is loading the CPU
is pegged at 100%. Usually the Sprint Ad is showing, but a few times its not.
When its all loaded I see that my memory usage may be part of it. Its 28 Mbs
just for ONE instance of IE !!! I usually browse the Forums with at least three
instances, but now I have trimmed it down to just one, but still slow.

I've still got to disagree, my connection is 512kbps and I notice no slow downs, it even appears faster. I don't know if this only counts as one instance but I use one FF window & multiple Tabs, one for each topic I'm reading & one for CP. Its quite regular for me to have 10+ tabs open for VBF.

Re: Forum Speed
On my system at work I think its using too much memory and CPU cycles.
At home I have DSL and P4 2.8 HT 800 FSB w/1 GB 400 Dual Channel RAM and all is fast.
So it must be specific to my system (cant handle it I guess) and not the site then.
I put in for a faster computer. Should be in next week.

That would make sense I guess (somehow) my PC is a little beast:
3GHz 800FSB HT
2GB 400MHz Dual Channel
I can't actually close the case on it while playing games cos it overheats badly, mainly cos the graphics card though .

Re: Forum Speed
I could say it is slightly faster to here it used to be. Replying doesn't take too much time either. My main problem is just the fact my ADSL box loves reseting almost all the time. I already bought a new one and am waiting for it to come.
Firefox seems to take 22 MB of memory when I'm in here. Doesn't matter too much, with 1 GB RAM doesn't hurt at all

Right now the MS live communications server ad is up and the forums are running fast on my comp. It is a static ad though so that's why. But as soon as that sprint/lg as comes up forget it.

Re: Forum Speed
Even before the upgrade the MS Live Communications Server Speed Ad was
noted that it sucked up tons of bandwith and CPU. The Sprint LG Ad is now
the prominate Ad being displayed and it seems that it is just as intense as
the MS Ad was.
I remember that it was noted for the MS Speed ad and that an email was
sent to someone at MS in charge of the Ad, but dont know what came
about. Martin do you remember that thread?

Wow now the last few minutes the forum has been extremly slow for me, I've been doing some graphics programming so dunno if thats anything to do with it but Its been loading just the header then ages later the rest drops down as well. When I view the source of the page though it shows me the full source so its like the page won't show straight away even though the full HTML is there .
Is this like what every one else has been seeing? Just the Header for a while then the page is suddenly finished?

I use DSL and when the Live Connection ad is running it takes several seconds for the Thread Tools dropdown to "fill in".

Yes, Electroman and Martin. These are some of the issues that I have been experiencing.
The page loads half way and the menu not filling until the ad is complete are
not new to me, but I didnt want to sound like I was complaining. I can work
around it for a while, but isn't there a quality control check of Ads being
accepted at JM before they are inserted into the Forums?
Thanks
