I have written an app so I can use it whenever I go to purchase a new monitor and see for myself that how do I see it in different modes. Can someone test it for me.
I am interested to find some info on how long does it take to finish the box test on different resolution and how much is the monitor frequency at the time you are running the test. Since my monitor doesn't go higher than 1024 X 768 I can't test further. I want to do this so I can put some time constraints to inform user whatz good.
Download here ( 230 KB ) (http://www.patel.com.au/MonitorTest.zip)
Cheers :)
P.S : Many of you will raise a question that this is an EXE and I don't trust it and for those, I am not asking you to. I have posted many EXE and DLLs here before and none of them so far contained anything nasty in it. So if you don't want to test it then I am fine with it.

it runs cleanly. i thought that you would have put a timer into it, but didn't see anything. i ran all of the tests, and they all worked on my lcd screen of the laptop. they are fast, but more like 2 seconds for the box test.
you should modify it so that it times each event somehow.

Thanks dglienna,
Well that is the reason I wanted someone else to test so I can make a valid assumption on how long should it take. BTW there is no timer involved. It draws as fast as monitor can refresh it. ( I think it depends on CPU speed but not that much, but I need solid evidence )
I have 5 year old LG monitor which supports this.
800 X 600 @ 85 Hz - 1.5 Second
1024 X 768 @ 60 Hz - 2.25 second
but my office CRT monitor only takes 1.25 second for 1024 X 768 @ 75 Hz and so all the rest LCDs we have.
Would be nice to know the idea timings for
800 X 600
1024 X 768
1240 X 960
1240 X 1024
1600 X 1200
2048 X 1536
@ DIFFERENT Frequencies.
Thanks.

I have updated the EXE to remove a bug in colour rendering in gradient test. It was not showing the colours to the extreme end but 2 grades less than the end of spactrum. :)
