For all the technology here, I can't seem to find an RSS feed for VBF. Is such a thing possible? Idealy an RSS feed produced from this result:
http://vbforums.com/search.php?s=&action=getnew
would be nice, or even an RSS feed for each forums would work.
Thought? Comments? Possible? Impossible?

That would be nice. Also to be able to subscribe to the feeds on a per forum basis. I have seen other VB3 forums namely WDF who have RSS feeds.
They may opt not to do that however becuase you can't dispaly ad's via feeds and they will only get dispalyed when the person visit the actual thread.

Yes it would be really great. I have seen many other programming site and forum including JupiterMedia site(4guysfromrolla.com) having RSS Feed.
It would be great if top 10 thread from each forum was combined into one feed or what echgnome suggested...
Hope the new vB3 version will have the facility built-in.

Checked out the manual for vB3, and it does, in RSS, XML or even JS formats! Hopefully JM will turn at least one of them on.

That sounds very promising :). I am sure we can persuade Brad & Martin once the upgrade is running steadily. It would be great feature and useful for many of us.

EDIT: Okaaaaay. I guess I won't close it..... as I can't figure out how to.

What is an RSS?
What do you need to be able to use it?

I think it stands for Really Simple Syndicate. If you go to the BBC new site using FF1.0 and click on the small icon in the bottom right which says subscribe. Then when you go to your bookmarks, they'll be a new menu, with each item being a news item from the BBC. Not only that, it is updated regularaly.

What is an RSS?
What do you need to be able to use it?
Simply put its an XML file, lets say BBC one, it contains all Headlines and small description plus the link to the article. If you have FireFox, you can add it as bookmark and you can simply see all the headlines and click on the link if you wish to read the news. You can subscribe/unsubscribe to any news catagories.
For forum, you can simply view all / top 10 thread as bookmark and click on the bookmark to go to the thread directy without having to go to the forums individually. Usually in the case of forum application this XML file will be dynamically generated from the Data Source of the application. Apart from FireFox you can get RSS reader application which can read from multiple sources..
Like visualAd said, i think we need to wait a little bit more before pushing Brad, becaus new forum is not yet stable and there are few other things they need to fix and i doubt this will be one of their priority. I am sure once the forum is stable Brad wont say no ;).
So we will just have to be a bit patient :).

So we will just have to be a bit patient :).
But is it too much for a simple yes, we can or a no we can't answer? That's all I've been looking for.
Since I couldn't even get that, but the smilies could get fixed, I figured it was a dead issue that no one's interested in and will never get turned on. So I've given up.

TG, to be fair the Admins are very busy getting things back to normal after the upgrade. If you browse through the forum feedback you will see a lot of people are having issues with many things. I think to them it is more important to get what ever features we had in the earlier version is first priority. I think Brad has indicated that he wont enable any new features initially (e.g Reputation) but add those features after all the major teething issues are resolved.
I dont speak for the VBF but we have to understand the upgrade is a major event so we should give them a chnace to respond.

You can google for RSS Feeder to find a free reader. I saw it on TechTV a year or so ago, and have one that they recommended. I don't use it much anymore, but it's nice to go back and check on new developments.
The hesitation here may be that RSS doesn't show any advertisements. Other places have participated, so I see no reason they shouldn't here, but it may take time.

Actualy, with a little finagling, it is possible to show ads. As for readers, so far I'm finding SharpReader to fit all my needs.
Have things calmed down enough that this might be looked at?

Did I miss it ? Is it really here, and I'm just not finding it, or are there no feeds from this site yet?
Thanks,

Hmm...kind of. The feed reader I'm using (Desktop Sidebar) is telling me that it may be a KlipFarm 2.0 feed or some goofy thing like that and it only supports 1.0. So I have the HTML of the forum coming in instead of the feed, which is ok I guess.
Thanks!

I have two version if you have noticed, if you just want the link (Ideal for FireFox) then use the FireFox version other wise use the "RSS Readear" version.
I have been very busy so havent had any chance to make any posts here let alone update the Feeds. Do let me know if you need any features. I only tested it in Sharp Reader and it seemed to work ok.
Hope it helps.

Well, the Desktop Sidebar (www.desktopsidebar.com) is VERY COOL, but has a limited range of RSS types it will support, KlipFolio 1.0 and ATOM. I have NO IDEA what the differences are, but I guess yours isn't one of them. I've tried both versions you offer, and it doesn't like them.
I get the following error:
Cannot add channel. Probably it is KlipFolio v2.0. Desktop Sidebar supports only KlipFolio v1.0 klips.
Missing title element

No blame to you at all, Danial, it's the app I'm not happy with. It IS in beta, and freeware, but I have no problem getting most other feeds into it. I can submit a feature request on their forum; I could also make a new panel, or an add-in for the news panel, as it is open source, I think. I have used SharpReader too, but I stopped using it when I started using Sidebar. Thanks for putting all that together for everyone!

I will download SideBar and try to make my feed compatible with it. Just give me a little time, I will get back to you when I do the update.

Hi Milkmood,
I have fixed the issues and both of my feed works fine with SideBar. Try it out. The ordering of the <link> tag was the problem.
Milkmood or anyone else, please post any comment, suggestion or feature requests in the thread on my signature.
Enjoy..

If you guys read the FAQs on the site, you'd find that a URL such as the following:
http://www.vbforums.com/external.php?type=rss2
Would most likely result in something your RSS reader could use. It's been around if you'd have looked.... ;)
Brad!
