Ocr
We have this binder of about 2000 pages of vehicle makes, models, vin numbers and insurance rating symbols, and we need to scan them in so I can import them into a database. The pages are clear and text only, so I am looking for some high quality OCR software that will make this as painless as possible. Right now at the office I have a canon scanner which is kind of old (4 years or so) and the software is pretty old too (its OmniPage Pro 9 - they currently have version 14 out)
anyways I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on hardware/software that you think would be really good for OCR

Abbyy Finereader 7.0

I use it at work and it is brilliant, fully automated and has a very high recognition accuracy.
I had to scan 150 pages of legal contracts and there were only 2 spelling mistakes in the whole lot and both of those were on technical jargon words.
Very sexy indeed. Recommended.
It's about £130 ($210 approx I think).
Outputs to excel / word / text / RTF and others.
(PS. Steer clear of their OCR Engine SDK, it sucks a fat one)
I don't live here any more.
