I wish the ads were always going to be the same size. I've gotten used to seeing them for everything that I do, but I don't like it when they take up half of every page as the conference one seems to be. usually, to show disproval, i won't click on them. i don't care about this one either, but i still wish it and others were all a uniform size.

Yes, they can get annoying when they are large in dimension size
or file size (slows loading of page). I think as long as they are not
so large that they change the layout of the forum page header
should be ok.

today's is just as large. i guess the changed the size when they redid the forum layout. my whole page is skewed to below half for me to write posts. have to scroll to the bottom of the textbox.

I know, I run 1280 x 1024 resolution on a 18" ViewSonic Flat Panel
monitor and I have to scroll down a little to cpmpletely see the
reply textbox and scroll down more the click the submit button. :(
Do I need to get a larger monitor and run an even higher
resolution? ;)

I don't know if I'd want to block all the ads, sometimes I like to see whats being offered, and Add Block limits you, and will get you banned, I think. VBF knows who you are when you log in. I think that they could easily blast the big one at you once, and then change it to something manageable to read, and still be able to click on.

Kinda like allapi.net. When you make your first visit for the day
you get a popup ad. Then whenever you revisit the site in the
same day you dont get the popup. I like that because you get
one shot a day and thats all.

This site is paid for by advertising and not by charging members. As such, discussions of blocking ads are not appropriate on this forum.

i never said that i wanted to (or learn how to) block ads. i was just commenting on their size. any reason to have them so big? if yes, why not take up half the page? whatever. I liked them before the switch, and was commenting my disapproval.

David,
The comment was really aimed at some of the other people and some of the posts that I took out of this thread because they were not appropriate.
Which ad are you referring to regarding 'too big'? The 320x200 size ads at the top have been there for a long, long time now. Are you seeing something bigger than that? Jupitermedia does "half-page" ads, to my knowledge there should not be any on this site. If you see one of those, then take a screen capture and send it to me so I can follow up.

Weren't those the same days when the database corrupted and the forum would often be very slow.... ;)
---------
MSN now has the automated, non-window ads that pop-up right on top of the content and do like 10 to 20 seconds of animation before getting out of the way. Now that is annoying -- especially since the close 'x's always seem to blend into the background.....

No, you're confused. Those are the days when we had no ads.

it seems that the current one is bigger, as it scrolls my reply box down so that I have to scroll to it instead of being able to type right in by clicking

David, how about customizing your toolbar to gain real estate
in the viewable client area. You can hide the descriptive text and
use small icoms instead. That is if you are using IE's default
setup. Also, try rearranging the collbars too. or just go full screen.

Use Firefox. You get the most space with the least pain ;)
Anyways, I haven't had problems with the ads. Sure, they're big, but atleast I can't remember any of them giving out sounds or speech. THAT'S annoying (and would really make me consider blocking the ads). Just a tip on what not to allow in ads even if the site is ad-supported :D

the google toolbar doesn't help, but things seemed nice until when I made the first post. (a few weeks, now)

***. At 800x600, it *IS* half a screen. If it is this bad on my laptop, I will respond. Hope this isn't the case at home...
back, and things are still, well, *big*
my original complaint stands...

The general computers on campus have 800x600, and it takes up nearly the FULL screen.
