Yesterday, I was putting in the new sound card that my dad bought. But suddenly, after I plugged it in, the power supply started making popping sounds and producing sparks! It was 235 W. Any clues? :eek2:

235W isn't very much in this day and age, but that shouldn't blow it... perhaps the extra load blew it because it was old or something.

But a new 450W ATX PSU.

It wasn't very loaded... A DVDROM, a 1MB Graphics Card (PCI) and a 6GB HD... But still, apparently adding the sound card (Audigy 2) was too much...

I just remembered that the sparks didn't start flying when I tried to open the PC, but when I inserted the cable into the power supply...

Is it generic?

If it's generic it's just what happends  I have 3 generic PSU's and each has some sort of problem.

Buy quality :D

Generic Components as in non-branded components.

Antec, Enermax make good PSU's

If you are using a generic PSU, i advise you to swap it for a quality unit. A nasty PSU can take out a lot of things with it :)

I have no clue... I'll have to look later. I think Herolchi (SP?) is also a good brand?
