the way the poll is set up

this is not a big deal, but i don't see the point in having a box where it sayes number of options on the new post page.

why don't you just have the default set to 4 and then when you go to the poll options page the user is able to select the exact amount of options they want

like i said this is not a big deal, i just dont see the point

The number is used in displaying the followup page. It could be defaulted to 4, but being enterable allows the number to be set before displaying the screen.
