friend, presently i m working as system administrator in central govt deptt. the staff are opposing the computerization. hence they are by unknowing me, chitting with the computers, doing some wrong operations with s/w and h/w of the pcs. in this way they are damaging the pcs.
how can i know the mischief played by anybody with any pc ?
how can i detect any deletion of files etc from the pc by any one in my absence ? etc...
this is happeing daily.
kindly arrange for help please...

First thing I'd do is put the server in a room that is locked shut. You can turn on auditing in Windows to check for deleted files. One thing I'd recommend though is make an image of the computers how you like it with somethign such as Symantec Ghost and every now and then, just re-ghost them. As for hardware, most cases lat you put a padlock on them so you could try that if you like.

Should also think about the ghost advice and maybe security cameras (even if just dummies) in the room with computers (post warning signs as well.

Make sure they have the little blinking light, you'd be suprised how many people get fooled by them, make them move would be good too with a little motor or something ;)

Government department? That's comforting.

Its the other way with us (another gov dept) all our staff except me is too dumb to mess up the computer system, we leave that to our IT contractors.
