I probably will as long as its over the summer holidays, depends on how much time I get.

is there any news on when it might be avialable? Would be rather cool to muck about with .

I havn't though of that at all...do you know when it is out?

Would be fun tho....but I also want to learn how to do animated models, and an indoor engine.

And at the moment we are planning on an outdoor terrain engine...

    Are you thinking about it?

No thats what the part about having enough time was about . I normally find it hard to only work on one project, mind the Ladscape engine like be my priority over the summer. If it comes out after the summer mind i might not have any time to play with it, becuase in september I start to work on GameCube T-DEVs .

There is also a lot of fun to do on this page too:

    http://gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=45

At the bootom it is the code for the

    DOOM engine
    Quake 2 engine
    Descent I engine

and more...would really be fun to do a Decent look a like once...

If we can manage too pull the terrain engine off Electroman, I would be happy to work with you again one time.

I have heard that XSI is really good. Never touched it my self. Never been any good at modeling.

Would be fun to do some changes on it. Is it free?

Now you probably dont have one a certified graphics card for it, but it should hopefully still work.

I really need to get my self together when it comes to 3D, this Terrain engine should help alot but I can't really using any modeling tools yet.

I think we are getting 3D Studio Max in the Games Lab at Uni for next year so that shuld be fun to play with .

oh heh.. sorry. Well no the SDK isnt out just yet. It will be free though and is supposed to be out before the game comes out.

And if you need a good place to learn 3d modelling Electro, check out 3dbuzz.com. Really good videos that teach you everything. You can only get the first volume of teaching videos for 3d max just by joining, but you have to get involved in the forums too to earn a star to see the rest. The first videos do a real good job though. They even move into modelling an alien in later videos

I have never done any moding my self. So I am not sure if this is something for me. Might learn more to do it from scratch then use an all ready made engine.

I am not even sure what I can do with that SDK...

Mostly in the planning fase...we have both a lot of exams now...but I really think we can pull this off. We have more or less desided what to add and when to add it. And set up a multi threaded winapi window...thats how far we are..

    Q. Does developing a project in a Workspace cost money?

    Yeah
Ive used it in the past when I was doing some projects with a couple of other people. Works very well.

Even have a plugin that will integrate with VS.NET, as long as you arent already using Source Safe.

    And 100% free

I have never used SourceSafe...WokaWidget wanted me to test it yesterday..

I think I will try to force Electroman to have a closer on this. I saw it had both VS.NET and VS.NET 2003 pligins. I like this all ready. And 30Mb of space...

    It is a:

GotDotNet Workspaces is an online collaborative development environment where .NET developers can create, host and manage projects throughout the project lifecycle.

That means that we can host all our project files there...up to 30Mb...guess we can add version number and stuff too..that way we don't have to make all those pages on your server. And it can be integrated too. Read a bit about it...

Dont make me angry. You wouldnt like me angry!

Tell you what this will be my last post on the subject. But Workspaces is an online Source Control thinga-ma-jig. Makes it easier to keep all your team members updated with the latest code changes, and to know who has a file checked out so 2 people dont upload 2 different changes.

Also gives you a private message board and bug tracker.

, no I wasn't on about this I meant as long as NoteMe keeps his probing out we should be ok. The GotDotNet thing should be fine in here, its to do with our Terrain Engien .

Guess it does seem good, Not that it will let me at the description page again, I actually signed up for the thing .

Just ragging you man. You are mod now. You must take it like a man. LOL

Bug tracker is very good too because you can submit bug and assign it to specific member to fix, and they can set it s fixed when they do.

All in all, much better than just sticking the files onto a directory on your web page

Is that a function on GotDotNet?? Or is it a similar page?

I like that you could add version number to the files.

The server is a bit slow tho'...

Yes it is part of workspaces.

Yeah I guess the site is just a tad slow, but its not like you really need speed for it. Its does its purpose.

Hell is loose....we have started a a workspace, and I have choosed to use the .NET interface, downloaded the app. Installed it and restartet. Den I made a new solution in .NET and tried to add it to the source Control like this:

But then an error comes up, and if I click ok, then the log on to .NET passport dialog pops up, then if I write in my MSN name and so on and press yes, then an other error comes up, saying that an error occured and that I can't use it. What is wrong? Did you ever get that error?

Looks like i missed the HL2 talk.

I'm definatly looking foward to it, i once made a small mod for the original and found it very fun to do. It was so simple that i learned C++ by fiddling with it! Mind you, thinking back to the stuff i did it was very bad coding.

Re-did some of my work a while back doing things like a realistic grappling hook (that went round corners and had a definate length) which was quite rewarding to see in action.

It's the built in physics that i'm most looking foward to playing with for HL2 though, especially on the vehicle side.

Yeha I think a grappling hook is always one of the best mods for games. Always love games using them. Fun stuff.

Noteme. I got home and tried. No problem logging in but still not quite getting it to work correctly. Ill have to read the documentation more on using it.

    (Sorry for going backwards):

If you guys are planning a MOD for HL2, I'd be happy to help out with the coding area. It didn't take me long to figure the first SDK out and start working with it. I'm a hopeless modeller, and a hopeless mapper/texturer.

But you're probably not in need of help
