Since there are loadz of posts on music, what's everyone's favouite lyric to a song?

"bring down the government, they don't they don't speak for us.." (Radiohead, no suprises)

or

"hunting girls to me is just like a sport" (something like that, have not heard this one for a while)
(Lou Bega, Mambo Number 5)

Any one have any better lyrics?

From one of my favorite songs (anyone know which song :)):
Sharp and open
Leave me alone
And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
Waiting
In the cold light
A noise
A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in the mirror for the first time in a year

From "American Pie":

'Cause the players tried to take the field,
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died?

And from "My Fault":

Dave, pull up your pants!
We need an ambulance.
There's a girl upstairs talking to plants

Alex

It is a great song and they are a good band to see live. But the best band that I have seen is pulp. I saw them back at V96 and they were awsome. I like the lyrics for mostly every song but there is one song that sticks in my mind lot's becuase it was the way I used to be.

From sorted for E's and whizz

every one asks you name, they say were all the same, and now it's, nice one ,geezer that's as far as the conversation went.

I wish I could fly, right up to the sky, but I can't - Orvil

(Ian suddenly rushes out of the office. Nicks a fast car and goes to the nearest hospital and kidnap'sa brain surgeon. He perfoms an operation and remove's all vital part's. Ian then get's a plain to the amazon and lives the rest of his life eating grub's, safe in the knowledge that he won't hear that song ever again and won't have to show his face again after quoting that)

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

(Ian comes back from the amazon, realising that grub's don't really taste that nice. Kidnap's the surgeon to put his brain back in and goes back to work and no-one notices he's been gone as he doesn't do any work any way)

HarryW

Ohhh so many decent lines! Plenty of material to work with on Nevermind, and a fair few decent Green Day ones too (as demonstrated by Jamagei ;))

A couple more memorable ones (for me at least) -

"I felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wander out where you can't see
Inside my shell I wait and Bleed"

One for any of you who've ever had to serve time on a support desk ;):

"Insane - am I the only mutha*****er with a brain?
I'm hearing voices but all they do is complain
How many times have you wanted to kill
Everything and everyone - say you'll do it but never will"

Just at the moment, this kinda thing's in my head:

"There's all the pain in the way she talks
All the pain in the way she walks
All the pain in her wave goodbye
All the pain in the way she smiles"

And

"I'm with everyone and yet not
Got to get away from here
I miss the one that I love a lot
I miss the one that I love a lot"

Guess what's on my mind recently :( Still, maybe some decent music will cheer me up. I feel inspired! *Runs to CD player*

Alex: It's sad to say but since Clapton gave up the dope (mid 70s) his music lacked the "fire" that his earlier stuff did. Just to contradict myself, I was quite impressed by his recent acoustic album.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor the rich get rich
Thats how it goes
And everybody knows

- Leonard Cohen

Born under a bad sign
I've been down since i began to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck
I wouldn't have no luck at all

- Eric Clapton

If you want a good Calpton album, but the "Cream of Eric Clapton". In my opinion everyone should be forced to own this album. It has all the clasics on it.

- Headless Chickens, debut album

"Where just two lost souls
Swimming in a Fish Bowl

- Pink Floyd "Wish you were here"

John probably doesn't have room on this server to store the entire lyric work of David Bowie, so will just indicate that l quote everything...with special emphasis on

"I've been putting out Fire

- David Bowie, Title track to Cat people.

And my all time favourite

or even
'Poor tired patthetic little sheep, tyting to limit me with their dicotomy, Human minds only know two kinds, and I'm number three, Human race don't give sh** about me!'

or a strange one
'Knee High! Arygle! Two! I was thinking of you whist I j*rked off into my sock last night...'

maybe
'Fish F*** baby, going to F*** you with a fish, going to take a river carp, and ram it up your butt, you slut, you *****! Why are you my Mum? Why are you my Mum? Why are you my Mum? Fish F***!'

and finally
'Green Plastic watering can,

Try this one:

Toploader - Dancing in the moonlight

We get it on most every night
When that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

(pause)

Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight!
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

We like our fun and we never fight
You can't dance and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight!
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

We get in on most every night
And when that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight!
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

It's Bush - Comedown. Bush are an old favourite of mine. Used to be grungey, but nowadays they've included more electronica style stuff, and it just doesn't work. Ahh well, I guess bands change. Sixteen Stone was their best album. Glycerine is one of my all time favourite songs, you ought to listen to it if you don't know it already.

Dried up and bulging out my skull
My mouth is dry
My face is numb
****ed up and spun out in my room
On my own... here we go
My mind is set on overdrive
The clock is laughing in my face
A crooked spine
My sense dulled

Here's my fave, anybody know who it is

************************************************
Let me tell you about a girl I know
Had a drink about an hour ago
Sitting in a corner by herself, in a bar in downtown hell
She heard a noise and she looked through the door
and saw a man she never seen before
light skin and light blues a double chin and a plastic smile
well her heart raced as he walked through the door and
he took and empty seat next to her at the bar
My brand new car is parked right outside how'd you like to go for a ride
and she said wait a minute I have to think
That's fine may I please buy you a drink
One drink turned into three or four and they left and got into his car and they drove away some place real faaaaar
now babe the time has come how'd you like to have a little fun and she said if we could only please be on our way I would not ruuun

THATS WHEN THINGS GOT OUT OF CONTROL

She didn't want to, he had his way, she said let's go, he said no way, Come on babe it's your lucky day, shut your mouth we're gonna do it my way, Come on baby don't be afraid, if it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid

He finished up and started the car, turned around and drove back to bar, He said baby don't be sad, in my opinion you weren't half bad
She picked a rock threw it the car, hit in the head, nows he got a big scar, COME ON PARTY PEOPLE WON'T LISTEN TO ME, DATE RAPE STYLEEE

The next day she went to her drawer, looked up her local attorney at law, went to the phone and called the police report and the she too the guys a$$ to court
Well the day he stood in front of the judge he screams SHE LIES THAT LITTLE SLUT
The judge knew he was full of sh*t, and he gave him 25 years, now his heart is filled with tears
One night in jail it was getting late, he was buttraped by a large inmate, and he SCREAMED, but the guards paid no attentions to his cries

THATS WHEN THINGS GOT OUT OF CONTROL

The moral of the date rape story, it does not pay to be drunk and horny, but that's the way it had be, they locked him up and threw away the key, well I can't take pity on men of his kind even though he now takes it in the behind, DATE RAPE!

Was just listening to this mp3 and had to post the lyrics :)

The eyes of a child
So innocent and pure
A child's heart is full of song
Take that tiny hand and lead them to the light
As adults, we see pain in the world
And it sometimes don't seem right

But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize the darkness in the soul

The beauty of a smile
Adventurous and wild
Life is kind of gay
But it doesn't seem that way thorugh the eyes of a child

So don't give up
Even when the road seems long
Just find that child inside of you
Yeah you gotta find you
Spread your wings and fly
To the brightest star
If you want I can even get my friend Steve to detail your car
For like, twenty bucks

But through the eyes of a child
They world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize the darkeness in the soul

The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child

I've gotta eye on my hand
I've gotta eye on my hand
I've gotta eye on my hand
But still I can't find you
Eye on my hand
Where have you gone, girl?
m coming up behind you
Eye on my hand
Don't turn around, now
Cuz I'm right there
I'm coming up behind you

(pause)

Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
The sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize
They bastards they really are

The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child

Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child

Where's it from then?

Jethro dear...don't argue with your elders! As I'm sure someone of your refinement would know...Ozzy is/was the lead singer of Black Sabbath. Do you not hear me anymore
I know its not your thing to care
I know its cool to be so bored
But it sucks me in when you're aloof
It sucks me in, it sucks it works
I guess it's cool to be alone

Will you never rest
Fighting the battle of who could care less
Every day you wake up late
Sometimes I wish I was that way

And you think Rockford Files is cool
But there are some things that you would change
If it were up to you
So think about your masterpiece
Watch the Rockford Files
Call to see if Paul can score some weed

Will you never rest
Fighting the battle of who could care less
Unearned unhappiness
That's okay, I guess ...

I've got this great idea
Why don't we pitch it to the Franklin Mint:
Fine pewter portraits of General Apathy and Major Boredom
Singing whatever and ever amen ...
...Oh well, maybe not - I'll try again
This should cheer you up for sure
See, I've got your old I.D.
And you're all dressed up like the Cure

Will you never rest
Fighting the battle of who could care less
Unearned unhappiness
You're my hero I confess

*Intro*
*Duh dudududuh dudududuh dudududuh*
Can't you see
I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

*Moshes*

Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
Belong
You can't be something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me
A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

*Moshes some more*

Respect, walk
What did you say?
Respect, walk
Are you talking to me?
Are you talking to me?

*Still moshing*

Run your mouth when
I'm not around
It's easy to achieve
You cry to weak friends that sympathize
Can you hear the violins playing your song?
Those same friends tell me your every word

*Keeps on moshing*

Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
Belong
You can't be something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me
A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

Respect, walk
What did you say?
Respect, walk
Are you talking to me?
Respect, walk
What did you say?
Respect, walk
Are you talking to me?
Are you talking to me?
No way punk

*Guitar solo*

*Duh dudududuh dudududuh dudududuh*

*Mosh mosh mosh*

Respect, walk
What did you say?
Respect, walk
Are you talking to me?
Respect, walk
What did you say?
Respect, walk
Are you talking to me?
Are you talking to me?
Walk on home boy

Nov 30th, 2000, 05:35 PM
From red giant to supernova,
Back to you and me,
A cloaked entity within a virtual reality,
Mechanised and organised,
To me it's plain to see,
The hand that's been busy, weaving fantasy,
It's so hard to understand,
And often we are blind,
But if truth were an ocean would it fit in the pool of a human mind,

You're all alone,
And it doesn't seem quite fair,
Why we're all left in ignorance,
Turning to despair
Turning to despair,
Philosophy and theology offer us a glimpse
At something more incredible,
Incredible,
Than you and I...Well...sounds better when they sing it :)

It is preety damn neat when you can actually listen to a song and say *I feel the exact same way* Well this is how i feel with this certain song.

"threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back a name in your recollection down among a million same
difficult not to feel a little bit disappointed and passed over when i've looked right through to see you naked and oblivious and you don't see me
but i threw you the obvious just to see if there's more behind the eyes of a fallen angel eyes of a tragedy
here i am expecting just a little bit too much from the wounded but i see through it all and see you
so i threw you the obvious to see what occurs behind the eyes of a fallen angel eyes of a tragedy
oh well apparently nothing at all
you don't see me you don't see me at all"

The truth in right and wrong
The boundaries of the law
You seem to miss the point
Arresting for a joint?
You seem to wonder why
Hundreds of people die
You're writing tickets man
My mom got jumped -- they ran!
Now I'll play a public servant
To serve and protect
By the law and the state
I'd bust the punks
That rape steal and murder
And leave you be
If you crossed me
I'd shake your hand like a man
Not a god

(Chorus)
To see
To bleed
Cannot be taught
In turn
You're making us <insert song title here>

Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide

Umm... I dunno, can we? Sorry, means nothing to me :( Maybe with a few more lines (if there are any)?

Here's another, with a decent quantity of lyics :):

The world is a vampire, sent to drain.
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames.
Aand what do i get, for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game.
Even though I know, I suppose i'll show
all my cool and cold, like old Job.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.

Now I'm naked, nothing but an animal,
but can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want? I want to change.
And what have you got, when you feel the same?
Even though I know, I suppose I'll show
all my cool and cold, like old Job.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.

Tell me I'm the only one,
Tell me there's no other one,
Jesus was an only son,
Tell me I'm the chosen one.
Jesus was an only son, for you.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a...
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a...
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.

Tell me I'm the only one,
Tell me there's no other one,
Jesus was an only son,
Tell me I'm the chosen one.
Jesus was an only son, for you.

And I still believe that I cannot be saved,
and I still believe that I cannot be saved,
and I still believe that I cannot be saved,
and I still believe that I cannot be saved.

ok one for you, you might get it

The house caught on fire in the winter the bosses lay slain
and each of the workers decided to ten-fold their pay
and they saw in the mirror the sun had been shot down in flames
and nobody minded the hole in the sky or the rain

but it doesnt really matter
when the judgements are said
'cos we all take our chances to find our romances in some others bed
and you might burn your fingers
hook your best friends rings for those
who'd have you standing naked then publicly auction the use of a hose

all the children where laughing
their faces in half at the pain
of the girl who loved talking to walls and jumping at trains
and the words that ring true in the playground of fools will remain
and nobody minded the hole in the sky or the rain

Where people go to drink away their gloom

well done - I thought that one would be a bit more obsscure

HarryW
Dec 14th, 2000, 03:49 AM
Well here's one from me:

Conceived in a hell beyond your depth of perception
Chaotic case of conquering domination
Psychopath snaps fired chains of imprisonment
A bludgeoning force that’s undermining the government

Inflict strain upon the structure
Collapsing below the pressure
Inflict strain upon the structure
Collapsing below the pressure

And since noone will probably get that one, here's another (with full lyrics):

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighbourhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighbourhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives?

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives
Shattered dreams

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on?
The cruellest dream, reality

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives
Shattered dreams

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives
Shattered dreams

Harry....we need help here in our little cube farm....

There is a song out there that goes something like this....

This is what you get...
This is what you get..
This is what you get if you mess with us

The song is really upbeat until it gets to the chorus (above).

It's a fairly new song..heard on the alternative station a couple of times and then gone.

Sound familiar at all????

Glad I could be of help. I didn't realise radiohead was that big in the states. there one of my all time favorite groups, although it wasn't really untill OK computer came out that they became mainstream. If you get a chance, listen to their previous album, "The bends", it's one of the best album's i've heard.

Dec 20th, 2000, 12:53 PM
I'll give you some of the lyrics and hopefully you can clue me in. I may have the words a bit confused.

.....blah blah blah, talk about sorrow and the next line ends with swallow, blah blah blah.

The chorus is something like:
"Im on the outside
I'm looking in
I see your true colors
I know where you been (probably not the right words but it rhymes)
Cause inside you're ugly
Ugly like me
I can see through you
..................."

HarryW
Dec 20th, 2000, 03:22 PM
Come to think of it the lyrics to that are completely different :

Warm sun feed me up
And I'm leery loaded up
Loathing for a change
And I slip some boil away

Swallowed followed
Heavy about everything but my love
Swallowed sorrowed
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and yet

Just wanted to be myself
Hey you said that you would love to try some
Hey you said you would love to die some
In the middle of a world on a fishhook
You're the wave
You're the wave
You're the wave

Swallowed borrowed
Heavy about everything but my love
Swallowed hollowed
Sharp about everyone but yourself
Swallowed oh no
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and you're not
I'm with everyone and yet

Piss on self-esteem
Forward Busted knee
Sick head blackened lungs
And I'm simple selfish son

Swallowed followed
Heavy about everything but my love
Swallowed oh no
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and yet not
I'm with everyone and yet not

Got to get away from here
Got to get away from here
Got to get away from here
Got to get away from here

I miss the one that I love a lot
I miss the one that I love a lot
I miss the one that I love a lot

come down
and waste away with me
down with me

slow how
you wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

and I wonder
when I sing along with you
if every thing could ever be this real forever
if anything could ever be this good again
the only thing I'll ever ask of you
you gotta promise not to stop when I say when
