XHTML 1.1 - it doesn't like the a tag [resolved]

    I have this code:
    Code:
      14: <script type='text/javascript' src='http://sm1.sitemeter.com/js/counter.js?site=sm1acidic'></script>
      15: <a href='http://sm1.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=sm1acidic'><img
      16: src='http://sm1.sitemeter.com/meter.asp?site=sm1acidic'
      17: alt='Site Meter' /></a>
and this is the error I get.
    1.

Line 15, column 60: document type does not allow element "a" here; missing one of "ins", "del", "h1", "h2", "h3", "h4", "h5", "h6", "p", "div", "pre", "address", "fieldset" start-tag

    <a href='http://sm1.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=sm1acidic'><img

Help Wanted! Can you think of a better explanation for this error message? Then please let us know by sending a message to the [email protected] list (be sure to quote the message number: #65).

The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you've placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are allowed there. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you've forgotten to close a previous element.

One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>").
    Why?

Edit: This is the only error on the page, so it's not a follow through error.
