Guys:
What was the most dificult/chalenging programming proyect u have ever worked on?
For me, it was a DOS proyect, 6 years ago. I was working on a Pager Company and I was automating the disconection process (disconecting people that didn't pay their monthly fee). There were 2 diferent applications, one for the Acct/POS and another for programming the Pager Units on the Paging Terminal. I had to hack the interrupt 23 to make a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident Program) that started one app and then hack the Video Driver and Keyboard Buffer to simulate the user browsing the customer accounts. Take note of wich customers didn't pay and then shut that app down, start the other one, call my disconection list and disconnect the selected units.
There was no easy way to exchange data from those 2 app. Before that automation, the operation was a 2 employes proccess. One on the ACCT app dictating the Units number to be disconnected, and another one on the Paging Terminal APP disconecting the units. About 2000 units were disconnected every end of month. It was like a lottery game:
User 1: Unit 4522553
User 2: Bingo!
User 1: Unit 8542113
User 2: Already Disconnected, go ahead!
User 1: Unit 2314578
User 2: That's mine, I will pay tomorow, go ahead!.
I spend 5 months, making it work. The TSR, the Keybord Buffer thing, and the Video Driver stuff almost make me quit. And the RAM memory limitations!... uff But finally I did it. BTW, I used Borland Turbo C.

you can't really compare these becuase all people are diffrent and started at diffrent times, and for me 8 months ago, making a simple triva game was the hardest, now I coun't really say what was the hardert thing becuase I never think of doing stuff that I' not capable of (e.i. Operating System). So almost everything that I make isn't a real challenge for me.

I agree with you, all people are diferent and have diferent skills. Somethimes, whats easy for u, is a real pain for others.
ALL:
I have worked on bigger proyects since the one I descrived before, and also, more complex ones. But I consider that DOS proyect the most challenging because:
1) I didn't have a clue when I started.
2) There was very little information about how to do it.
3) I have no internet access, so I had to spend many hours on the College Library, reading books. No "search" capabilities.
4) No one I knew at that time, ever attempted to do such a thing.
5) I was not commisioned to do the job, i do it on my spare time. I was really sick of endless hours dictating pager numbers. My troat hurts.
6) If somebody ask me to do it again, I believe i would walk away as fast as I could! :)
7) Most of the time, i really doubt if I could finish the proyect.
I was never paid in $$$ for the job. But i got my reward, I didn't have to dictate numbers again ;)...

Before making that program, I was the employe in charge if dictating the pager unit numbers, one by one, while another guy was at my side, disconnecting the units that I say. After the program was finished, at the end of month disconection process, we both just sit back and watch the program do the job.
The whole process, when done manually, taked about 13 hours to complete. But using the program I made, the job was done in less than 15 minutes (with a 386 PC). So i didn't get any money, but I make my life easier (and also my co-worker's).

Hi,
If you can open this message box, can anyone help me in writing the TSR program which is the need of the hour.

A co-worker entered data into a terminal, and I had to enter the same info into a mail-merge. I combined the two jobs so that I entered it into a terminal emulator on the PC and then copy/pasted it into the mailmerge.
I got nothing for it, but got to do two jobs for the same crummy pay. Co-worker got promoted. :(
Hence, level of difficulty was dealing with the fact of the matter.

The most difficult project I ever made, that's still incomplete, is Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter. You can download it at www.angelfire.com/fl5/memorydll/index.html
