    Angry Slow Games!

My computer's specs are as follows:

    192MB RAM
    GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB (AGP)
    667MHZ Intel Celeron Processor
    C-Media 6 Channel Sound Card

My problem is that no matter what the game is (mainly 3d games though) the computers runs the game really slow when sound is used. When sound is turned of or the quality is changed in the sound properties in the control panel the game runs almost 2 times faster than when it had sound. Games like Driver 1 run slow on my computer with the lowest settings. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks in advance.

What OS? Whith specs like that on XP, it definatly will putt. The celeron being the biggest killer, it's not really designed for games, more of a cheap office type processor. I can't see it being the GFX card, I got the same one and i can play lots of 3D games.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Get a new computer. Your computer is a piece of junk.

Yeah, I'd say it's the processor. Try a defrag or a reinstall and see if it runs any better and update your version of DirectX to DX9.0b and see if that helps.

Thanks. and I am getting a new computer. I just thought it was wierd that there is such a big speed difference when you turn sound on then off.

Probably has quite a bit to do with your hard drive and ultra-slow bus(66 MHz). Probably not enough bandwidth on the bus for the audio and video to work together at an acceptable speed.

Could very well be your sound card too, if it's not very advanced, it might try to put all the sound processing onto the processor and that would force it to slow down. I know the high end Creative cards do lots of sound processing on the card, as with many new components these days, they all try to reduce the load on the processor and do it themselves.
