why am i doing this?
to help you little programmers out hehehe
here is my tip of the day
so after you have some experience on your resume ( i still need some graphic artists for our group *wink wink*)
so now you have some experience, and the employer has given you a interview
whats the first thing you do?
well besides pissin your pants in joy
you have a lot of work to do
put a digital profile togather (paper sucks)
i put something REALLY crappy togather and put it on a cd and gave it to the employer
i must say, he was IMPRESSED even thou he didn't know what the hell was on the cd..
what does your profile should look like?
here is mine (i really would never post this on a forum but it might help some people out)

I have found that a lot of companies make their jobs sound like you have to have an IQ of 220.
The thing is if you know your basic stuff you tend to get training in everything else anyway.
The job I have just got I had to do a multiple choice test.
They told me I had got an outstanding score and basically offered me the job there and then.
Now I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet or anything but I don't consider myself as a fantastic developer. I know I still have massive amount to learn and that will be ongoing, so I was shocked when they told me this. The main thing is I am confident in what I can do.
Employers are not simply looking for good developers or whatever you do. What's the point in having a fantastic developer who is always late, never finishes projects on time etc.
Employers are never looking for just talent, they know if the basc knowledge is there that can be worked on. If you can provide puctuality, GSOH, good communicator, team player, etc these are as big factors as knowledge alone.

agreed
the reason why i thought the profile would be a good idea is because it shows the employer you want the job
and that you plan before you do something.

Three major things employers are looking for
1. Confidence Don't think can l do the job, think what can they offer me.
2. Communication Can you write and talk correctly.
3. Sense of humour The majority of employers in this part of the world who are after IT people generally are looking for team players who can mix it with other employees.
Also helps if you play cricket, invariably they are a couple of guys short....just swap cricket for baseball if your a yank and you get the idea.
