You need some sort of application to handle all the various layers.
Net Send works through the Messanger service. Other applications handle it through custom ways.
Without something monitoring and translating the information, there isn't any way to intercept it. Basically you need either Messaging enabled, or a third party application (ie AIM, MSN, etc)
There are several "kludgy" ways to get around this, ie, just place a text file somewhere on the network and type into that, and have your friends look at it, or you could even setup a TCP/IP printer and print Word docs with what you want to send, and write a little application that will grab the info.

Nono, I can run regedit at school fine... The main security feature is deepfreeze over here... I know how to get myself admin... but that's not my purpose, I just wanna make msn work or any type of messaging threw the network... it doesnt need to get a respond. I just want to be able to send a message to a specifyed machine or to all machines in the class... is it possible, if so, how?
You said net send doesn't work because msn is locked, and that this has to do with a registry key, might you tell me what key is that?

Hmm, I just looked up a few functions of NET commands, and they all seem to be working threw msn... is there another way to send messages threw the network? Btw, I have Novell installed on every computer, maybe I could msg threw that... ?

You said you tried "net send"? Because if it doesnt work there is a place in the registry where you can enable it. It has probably been disabled by the admin.

My guess is...That you are asking if a net message will work if the receiving party has net message is disabled? Negative, If the receiving party has the messaging service diabled it will not work. So give the regkey to your friends also.
Btw, If your admin was smart that reg key that IntelSucks gave you shouldnt work. Most smart admins disable the use of regkeys by regular users. So if you want to run that you need to be logged in as a "local administrator".
If all else fails, there is a little utility that looks after DirectX and its settings, performance and the like. Under the network tab you can start a simple chat program. Since all computers have directX, they're bound to have it.... of course you need to give them the IP though, so one would wonder if it wouldn't just be easier to give them the link then.
