Ok I am an administrator at my school. I help manage around 1200+ computers in the entire district. Well one day I was running sysprep on some new machines so they will be reconized on my DNS server; long story short I put the bad password on about 4 machines. OK moderators before you delete my post please PM me and I will give you the phone number to the school and they will vouch for me.

Now I need a way to reset the administrator password in windows xp. I dont feel like using lopht crack and I dont want to brute force(takes too long). I just want a quick fix. I tried GetAdmin but it failed. I just need an app that resets the password to -Blank-. So if anyone knows of a nifty little program that will suite my needs PM me so the moderators dont close the post.

I REPEAT DO NOT SHARE THE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROGRAM ON THE FORUM(IN PUBLIC) I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THE MODERATORS WILL DELETE MY POST IF EVERYONE POST THEIR FAVORITE HACKING PROG!!!!

You can crack a Windows password and you can get around a Windows password to view files. I have yet to see anything that can reset a Windows password, so you may be out of luck.

Doing a recovery install from the CD would clear the pass. You also may want to search through the Microsoft knowledge base for some sort of solution.

Just re-image the machine?

Or, create a user account on the domain that is a member of the Administrator's group. Login to the machine as that user, and use the User Accounts applet in control panel. I think you should have the rights to reset the password.

If it's a member of a Windows Domain, login as an administrator of the domain and reset it that way, simple.

True....I feel like a freaking idiot. I just kept thinking at a local level and never thought to login as Domain admin. Thanks guys and if I find the password reset I will let you know.

I wasnt thinking about it. The freaking guy behind me watching kept asking dumb questions about his sound blasater. So I was just ignoring him and not paying attention to what I was doing. I hate dumb retorical questions.

That only works if you know the local administrator password, it asks you for it which he doesn't know.

There's a Linux-based recovery CD image somewhere...

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Write the CD image to a CD, then boot from it onto the system. Don't try resetting it to a value, you need to totally blank it.

Actually, if you use a win2k disk and use recovery console it wont ask for a password.
