This is some hard stuff to figure out!
I have no clue on how to make my own code, all i know
how to do is make a button, and when you click on it, it beeps.Are there any places I could go to learn what some of this stuff means, and how it works?thx

Read, read and read some more. I would recommend the Sams Teach yourself series for anyone wanting to learn programming with VB or C++.
Get Sams Teach Yourself Visual Basic 6 in 21 Days if you want to learn VB. You will learn loads.
You could also browse the many articles on this site, as well as downloading and studying some of the projects.
Just a few suggestions.

Go to your local technical book store or visit the Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. websites and get a book like Teach Yourself Visual Basic 6 in 21 Days.

One of the best ways to learn is to try!
I learned just the basics of basics from a teacher, after that just 1 word, TRY!
Not only it's fun, after you succeed, you are just so proud of yourself, and also you can ask us... well, you are maybe the first person here that can ask me question without API stuff...
