Windows98 startup screen

I know how to change Win95 startup/shutdown BMP screens, but with Win98, only the shutdown screen file could be found in the system directory.
Is there any brave man who knows where the Win98 startup screen is situated?

Try putting the new screen into logo.sys and saving into the root directory...I'll try and see if it blows up...:)

I know... its an ancient secret passed down generation after generation... and here it is:


for win 98:

open ms paint, click FILE, OPEN goto the windows folder and there is a file called Logow.sys

open it up and there is the start up picture

also you can open Logos.sys which is the screen that says ITS NOW SAFE TO TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF

for win 95:
I forgot the names of the files, but there is a way to edit the shut down windows logo screen and the styart up logo screen

make sure to back up the original file




not alot of people know this, so remember it and you will become 1 step closer to mastering windows (and be like me who know almost everything about windows)

Actually, LOGOW.SYS is the "Please wait while your computer shuts down", and LOGOS.SYS is "It is now safe to turn off your computer". Simply create a new (compatible) bitmap, save as LOGO.SYS in the root of your boot drive...and it will work (I just tested it by copying LOGOW.SYS to c:\logo.sys

I just got back to my pc, it has to do with memory being translated before it can be accessed by the main memory

Dimava: Good one: How do you add the Control Panel to your Start Menu (so that all the entries in it (like 'Display') are in a side menu). I've done it, so can you?

ok.... I'll give you step by step directions on how to do it... it seems long but I can do it like in 30 seconds

1. open my computer
2. doublc click on C:\ (or your main hard drive)
3. double click on windows
4. double click on start menu
5. minimize it
6. double click on my computer again
7. double click on ConTrol Panel
8. In the Control panel click EDIT>SELECT ALL
9. click EDIT>COPY
10. flip back to the start menu folder
11. click EDIT>PASTE

and there you go, now any computer illitarte person can change it with my instructions

Oh dear. You missed my hint:

Create a new folder called "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" and put it into the Start Menu.

neither are wrong, the second is a little faster, but you get the same result

Actually, with my method, whenever anything is added to the control panel, it will be automatically updated. Your method requires a new shortcut be created.

Windows 9x has a slight bug, as in if you attempt to load the file c:\con\con, it gives a BSOD. Therefore, by turning it into a file:///c|/con/con URL, it lets you get at it from a web page. An <img> tag is the most obvious 'carrier', since it is automatically loaded when the page is.
