I've been programming VB apps for the last 4 years, with SQL Server experience, and some Crystal Reports.

It's getting kind of boring since now it's mostly maintenance and small changes. So it's either look for other projects and move to another city or study a new language.

First, are there any major VB projects happening in the states.

Two, Is VB.net getting popular and could I fall into that path.

Three, what is the next best language to learn.

I appreciate you input about the current state of programming.

If you're comfortable with VB, VB.Net would be the next logical step.

But if you want to learn a real language, learn C++ ;)

C# and Java are somewhere in-between.

It mostly depends on where you want to go, as the languages have not exactly the same application areas.

I tried a lot to learn C++, but finally settled on Java and C#. They are relatively easier to learn.
